Are Americans Too Prudish?
Are Americans Too Prudish?
By AskMen.com Editors Editorial Staff PAGES: 1 | Are Americans too prudish to let women go topless? After a year-long campaign, a Danish pressure group, the Topless Front, successfully forced lawmakers in Copenhagen to allow women to go topless in public pools. The leader of the group, Astrid Vang, spearheaded the change in nudity laws, declaring, “We women would like to decide by ourselves when our breasts should be sexual and when not.” Copenhagen now joins a host of cities, states and countries around the world that have relaxed their laws to allow women to go topless in public, begging the question as to whether or not to relax nudity regulations in the U.S. And while the idea of exposed breasts in public has many male-dominated websites wagging their tongues, few have actually outlined that such laws could mean seeing one’s female relatives in the buff, as well as the 30% of American women who are obese. Join the debate Is America too prude to allow women to go topless in public? Would relaxing nudity laws result in too many uncomfortable situations?

Yes, Americans are too prudish, and so are the people of many other nations. Nobody was ever killed by breasts. Well, at least not to my knowledge.

Much of this country's culture is based on Puritan ideology.
So of course we are.

It's not that Americans are too prudish, it's that so many are phony prudish.

Heretical Note: Homosexuality is not deviancy, so don't flame me for the above.

Damn good question.
I hung with Aussies in Bali and even though they were accustomed to it they still loved to go for a walk on the beach and beaches there were topless. It's all relative. Kids allowed to drink watered down wine early on are less apt to abuse alcohol later. If, all of a sudden, in the good ol' USofA the ladies started going topless on beaches people would be so afraid of the feeling that welled up within them they would want to rape, maim, kill or persecute those who brought those feelings about. Funny how we either want to kill or fuck the source of our arousal, ain't it? ..and yeah, Id call that prudish. Not only that, homophobic too but in a way that is prudish too if you buy into the previous question. |
