Board Etiquette

I joined of another board a few months back that was geared for people of similar ethnic backgrounds.

I joined because I wanted to discuss issues that I couldn't with other groups and so I could hear opinions of people with similar background, etc.

Right from the get go, I was under suspicion for having an alternate ID, about lying about what I posted about, etc.

I ignored because I wanted to look past it.

I have the same board etiquette/tone there that I do there. I say what's on my mind- I have my quirky sense of humor - which I appreciate if others don't get.

There are few nice people and we've had good discussions. However, for the most part the people have there been assholes to me. I'm not taking it personally because I'm not the only one.

No matter what I say, I have people hating on me for no good reason really...for example my posts are too long (I don't post threads longer than this one).

I think it's at the point where it doesn't matter the content but who posts it. For example, I replied to a thread a female started about dating white guys - the thread originator put down the guys from our community and said she rather date white guys, etc. She made a number of posts in regards. No one said a peep - and she's done this on various occasions.

When I posted, I clearly indicated it was my experience - that I was not stereo typing or generalizing. So guess what? I got about 7 people attacking and accusing me of stereo-typing. They didn't even bother reading what I wrote, just cherry picked One woman even said - I'm not a male but after reading your post I wanted to punch you - she says this repeatedly to other posters as well and only responds to select people and ignores/insults the rest.

The only conclusion that I can come to is that I type rings for true for them and that bothers them so the take their frustrations out on me. I am doubting myself because there's a pretty big group who strongly dislike me - but they all "know" each other - either from years of being on the same board or offline.

They love insulting others- secretly hate when someone else succeeds - but on a message board (cowards that they are) will attack you but in real life wouldn't have the guts to stand up for themselves.

For the most part I've been civil - the only time I've resorted to name calling or insults when I was provoked - even then I don't always. I just ignore.

I have no real point to this thread, other than I appreciate this board so much more.

A message board does become a community. and anytime a new poster arrives it is always with a suspicious eye. Look at recent events here with a certain canine. Experienced posters know what is going on and can deal with it as they see fit. New posters may be run off forever with some of the experiences I've witnessed, (partaken).

Has this board become a collective of thought? I'm afraid it has to some degree. I don't know what happened, but I miss Teri. And some others that although Hill fans or not, have left recently. There is truly only one that I wish never to return here. And as much as I disagree, (loathe, despise, abhor ) with them I would not wish any to leave, and would feel badly if I was the cause. Except for a certain canine.

why would you be the cause, I have not paid attention to your post specifically but you seem pretty tame for what I have seen?

What is the theme of the board? This one is basically political, but has so much more.

What types of things are discussed? Or is it anything, as it relates to a given race/group/nationality?

The name of the board isn't important or relevant ....or I would've shared

There's many different forums but only one is really posted in "banter" - most talk about general chit, chat - what they're having for lunch.

I'm more interested in talking about social issues and such and I guess they don't like to think, makes their head hurt...lol.

This is the thread in question that started this shit:

Quote:
I find that xxx guys have a bit more of personality and try new things (play instruments, backpack in South America, play sports (not just watch), learn a second language, etc) where as xxxx guys are (dare I say) boring and predictable - almost with no real personality - they are content with going to school, getting a job they aren't really challenged by, going to clubs every weekend, a couple of all-inclusive trips to Domincan or Cuba, then find a girl to get married to so they can "settle" down because that's of course the next logical step and then have babies in their cookie cutter house in the burbs - I cannot tell you how many I've met have almost identical lives/jobs/hobbies/etc.
The thread starter agreed - no one said anything to her.

One guy admitted that fit him to the tee.

All the other ones stated that I'm generalizing even though I explicitly said that this is from my experience.

I'm thinking all the ones that took offense our the ones who fit the bill - what's so offensive about it? The thing is they rip women apart all the time - the even have terms like "lady leftovers" and "typical chick syndrome".

So hypocritical. I'm trying to figure why this is bothering me so much. I've decided that it's not worth my time/effort to post their anymore - they're more interested in making personal attacks than debating or discussing. I have a few who follow me around thread to thread harassing me.

One girl said that opinions = generalization - wtf?

Generalizations if you say ALL people. IF you preface by saying "IMO" or "my experience" that's an opinion!

Honestly, I'd be surprised if the combine IQ of that board is more than 500.

Lollipop, I wouldn't take it personally. I would move on or keep posting ignoring the nonsense. I don't know why the Hillary fans have left, every board is like ours or more vitriolic. I guess they went to Hillary's website to blog.

Sorry to keep harping about this but it gets me so mad.

A few weeks ago one the idiots posted this link:

Everyone laughed and blah, blah because it was taking a jab at women. I made a comment that would be my worst nightmare type things. So all I did this time was post pretty much the same but from a male perspective.
