I used to give my Miss Punum a thyroid pill twice daily.

One, I held her between my knees. I held her mouth open. I dropped the pill at the back of her mouth. I ran a gentle finger down her throat in a petting motion until she swallowed.

It worked well.

She was a sweet and gentle soul. I always thought she knew she needed that medicine.

* Note: I also gave her a food treat after every pill session.

It must be a trust thing. That's exactly how my wife does it, but if I try the same method by the time the dust settles there is blood and fur all over the room. (my blood, her fur)

and I agree with Don, we're talking about pilling cats here, Sean should start a new thread for his strange cheese fetish.

I think people here have something against cheese. I don't understand that and think I really need to read more. Or maybe I just like cheese, plus, a little hungry right now.

That said, and I probably should have mentioned this before, if my cat does need a pill, I pry her jaw open, the big kid tosses it down, and I clamp down her jaws closed until I think it's about to come out of her nose (hasn't so far). It's not pretty and I get scratched up, but she doesn't go completely nuts, like she does in a car.

Some cats really don't like cars.

I imagine giving a pill to a cat is a lot harder than giving one to a dog. My dogs would never bite me....but a cat might not be so gentle to having a pill shoved down their throat.
