I'm not really a storyteller...
... but this is one I thought I'd like to get off my chest.
About two weeks ago, I was at my dad's house doing some random yardwork. I think I was trimming limbs when he came outside & said "Zane, you don't seem like yourself." As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. One of those flashes of fatherhood he's been known to show at times. Well, last Monday, I was waking up to get ready for work when my boss called me & said "we heard about your family problem... take as much time off as you need." Never one to show my hand, I said "OK". Five minutes later, my dad calls me. He asked me to drive to his house for a minute, that he needed me to drive him somewhere. I showed up, and I noticed a car in his driveway that wasn't his. He told me he'd rented it. I asked why & he didn't say. All he said is "drive me to Savannah". So I took some back roads to the I-16 until it met the I-95. When we approached the interchange, he just kept looking at me like he expected me to know where to go. And all of a sudden, I did. Sixteen hours later, we were in Philadelphia, picking up my daughter at her mom's house. Thirty minutes after that, we were back on the I-95, headed north to New York City. I could write for hours, detailing everything that happened in the next five days, but I won't. That's between the three of us. Let's just say that I got a much better feel for who I am, where I came from, and what I need to do from here on out. And for the first time since 1995, I actually felt like I wasn't doing it all alone. |

An awakening.
Oh, and your story telling abilities are pretty good despite the length.
