I'm not really a storyteller...

... but this is one I thought I'd like to get off my chest.

About two weeks ago, I was at my dad's house doing some random yardwork. I think I was trimming limbs when he came outside & said "Zane, you don't seem like yourself." As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. One of those flashes of fatherhood he's been known to show at times.

Well, last Monday, I was waking up to get ready for work when my boss called me & said "we heard about your family problem... take as much time off as you need." Never one to show my hand, I said "OK". Five minutes later, my dad calls me. He asked me to drive to his house for a minute, that he needed me to drive him somewhere.

I showed up, and I noticed a car in his driveway that wasn't his. He told me he'd rented it. I asked why & he didn't say. All he said is "drive me to Savannah". So I took some back roads to the I-16 until it met the I-95. When we approached the interchange, he just kept looking at me like he expected me to know where to go. And all of a sudden, I did.

Sixteen hours later, we were in Philadelphia, picking up my daughter at her mom's house. Thirty minutes after that, we were back on the I-95, headed north to New York City.

I could write for hours, detailing everything that happened in the next five days, but I won't. That's between the three of us. Let's just say that I got a much better feel for who I am, where I came from, and what I need to do from here on out. And for the first time since 1995, I actually felt like I wasn't doing it all alone.

An awakening.

Oh, and your story telling abilities are pretty good despite the length.

I'm glad you got to spend some time with your daughter Zane. Your Dad sounds cool.
