Too bad republicans haven't let this money do any good.

Definitely time to rethink nonviolent drug offenses.

Time to demand a refund.

We know the federal budget is over two point two trillion, yet we're seeing only about one point eight here. This is what happens when you let the extreme right wing do spending and accounting.

Oh, and we should shitcan that bullshit Scarecrow Defense Initiative. They're not going to hit jack shit with those interceptors unless North Korea's polite enough to put a transponder in their warheads and not decoy reentry vehicles.

The numbers change from site to site as to how the money is allocated...I don't see interest on this one....

the interest probably dwarfs most of the actual spending...they didn't want to shock people, it is parade, afterall...could you imagine what would happen if a larger section of the population knew just how much money we were paying in interest right now?

Actually I think it was 406 billion for fiscal year 2006.

Not sure where this parade report gets their figures on though. Social Security spending is not part of the Federal budget (3.0 trillion) either.

I'd be interested in seeing numbers that show the budget at 3 trillion...

and how SS is not part of federal budget....

Edit...okay techinically SS is not part of budget...but nonetheless...the money comes in and is paid out..it's not part of the general fund...but it is part of what could be considered a budget...and from what I understand the money is spent elsewhere...even if illegal...maybe it's a misconception...but...

Since it's incomplete...they haven't released the full documents yet.

You could probably go to the US gov's website and they'd have the budget outlined. Probably spread over 150 pages of some pdf mind you.

It's definitely off budget and has been for over 20 years. But yes it's more of an accounting trick at this point than anything else. They are continually "borrowing" from the off budget SS surplus to reduce the federal budget deficit.

Edit: My point about it is that 615 billion was in ADDITION to the 3.0 trillion federal budget.
