Couldn't have done it a few moment's ago before I left a message on POHP?

What I've always found strange, is that people on the left LOVE the EU even though it is pro free trade.... and if you believe the EU is like the US, it would be a VERY weak central government with strong states rights....

Are you sure we should be taking an adversarial role with the EU?

The EU is not pro free trade: they have all kinds of trade agreements and restrictions, even on fishing rights.

Now I can actually admit I'm a Federalist? I'm a moderate who is wary of the EU, who loved American business practices until we corporatized and altered it to service only.

The EU is exactly that, in a way. There were and are many elements in the US who would like to see the U.S. that way.

Okay...but aren't those more about boundries than free trade? Just like the Great Lake states have control over the lakes?

Anyways...I've got not beef with the EU...I'd rather those European countries worked with eachother instead of against eachother....

Kinda like John Adams, I suppose. I don't like the fact that some states, if states were empowered, would have more money/industry/population/doohickeys than another state and thus wreck the whole shebanger.

I want a strong central government that has strong toys, but little power to use its strength and toys. A strong, yet contained central government who's no longer hamstrung by states but hamstrung by citizens individually. This would be attained by a true representative democracy by eliminating influences not eminating from their constituents.

I like the balance of power. Like Adams, I fear eletism in government more than I fear a monarch. I despise Unilateralist more, but not much more, than I despise NeoCons.

States were a quaint idea, but really.

hmmm maybe I was wrong....

Here's my beef....With strong central government you end up with wack jobs like Bush controlling everything...at least with stronger states I have more influence over the government. Hell, states alone serve as a check....don't like the way your state is ran? move to another...with a strong central government you've got people thousands of miles away making decisions for you. For instance, senators from dry states would LOVE to pipe the water down that way, and probably could if their party was in power and they had a lot of pull if it weren't for our rights to govern the water here....

....plus it helps with diferent government bodies trying to tackle the same problems from diferent directions....Others can compare and contrast the results to their own and make changes as necessary.

I don't mind a strong central government in the sense that you were talking about with the toys and such, but restrained...that's the tought part....

EDIT: btw Julia, nice try starting a thread so we could stay on topic...but as you can see we blew that out of the water alreadyI blame POHP, he's a sneaky bastard
