'Army Times' Article Describes U.S. Troop 'Mutiny' in Iraq
'Army Times' Article Describes U.S. Troop 'Mutiny' in Iraq
By Greg Mitchell Published: December 16, 2007 8:20 PM ET NEW YORK While violence is down in Iraq, Americans continue to die and fall badly wounded, and suffer severe stress and trauma caused by 15-month tours of duty. A remarkable article on Friday in the Army Times is titled: "Not us. We’re not going: Soldiers in 2nd Platoon, Charlie 1-26 stage a ‘mutiny’ that pulls the unit apart." Here are two excerpts. The first describes only one of several incidents that drove many soldiers to "stand down." The second looks at how some responded. The entire lengthy piece by staff writer Kelly Kennedy can be found at: http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/12/bloodbrothers3/ Quote:

Some soldiers are feeling stressed. One cracked under the pressure and killed himself. No one said war was easy and these things happen.
Their morale would be a lot better if liberals weren't trying to undermine them at every turn. Democrats tried to cut off their funding, you call their leaders liars, you say they have died in vain and continue to demand their surrender to the terrorists. |

U.S. Soldiers Stage Mutiny, Refuse Orders in Iraq Fearing They Would Commit Massacre in Revenge for IED Attack
We speak with a reporter from the Army Times who gives an inside account of how an army unit committed mutiny and refused to carry out orders in Iraq. After an IED attack killed five more members of Charlie 1-26, members of 2nd Platoon gathered for a meeting and determined they could no longer function professionally. Several platoon members were afraid their anger could set loose a massacre. [includes rush transcript] An audio from democracy now w/ Kelly Kennedy talking about the situation, soldiers etc.........
