When I was young, and Elvis hit our radios, and Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and the others came through the "door", my brother and I had friends who came to our house to listen to records, because their parents wouldn't let them listen to Fats, Chuck, et.

That was my first encounter with racism.

The parents were concerned about the color of the singer; the kids were only concerned with the music.

Then we had civil rights legislation.

Today, if one has an apartment to rent, and one hires an agent to rent it, even though it's illegal, they "guide" would be renters to the "appropriate" apartments.

While the law says you "can't" do this, the agent has landlords who don't want to rent to blacks or asians, etc.

Thats fine........... We don't have to agree............ ~shrug~..........

IMO that some would be prejudiced etc... is a given in any culture/society...... The reason I posted it is that I believe that there are also many ppl w/ a much more open & liberal outlook that feel exactly the same..........


This idea of patriotism or whatever you wish to call it is deeply ingrained & goes beyond just flag waving........... During "perceived" times of trouble even the libs are circling the wagons along w/ all the rest & assisting if not @ least turning a blind eye to the war rhetoric.........

Homerism: The family sitting around talking shit about some other memeber that is not there..... Nary a thought or care.... But if someone "outside" said some of those same things about that family memember, those would be fighting words....

A couple fans of a sports team are @ the bar criticizing the coach of their team.... Another fan, from another team wanders up to the bar & agrees w/ the the two...... & goes on to add his own abuse of the coach to which the two rally around/behind their coach & support him from this outside attack..........

Many Muslims, Arabs & Persians, Iranians, Afghans etc..... Will say that they are non-political............. Not religious etc so as to avoid either having to agree w/ American policy, or explain why they disagree w/ it which for most uninformed Americans would be difficult........

Why bother.....................
