The Neo-Conservative Guide to Voting for Ron Paul

You hate Ron Paul and his kook supporters. You are tired of seeing their messages inundating blogs everywhere he gets mentioned. Your eyes are filled with fiery anger as you see Ron Paul videos constantly near the top rankings on YouTube. You love burying Ron Paul articles on Digg.com. Nothing gives you more pleasure than labeling him a racist and supporter of the 9-11 truth movement to denigrate him in the eyes of all. You believe his foreign policy is dangerous to America and you have an unabashed fear that with him in the White House “islamic jihadists” will invade our country and turn it into what Iraq looks like today.

You should vote for him anyway.

What?! That’s right. You should vote for him anyway for several reasons. What follows are some of those reasons.

His foreign policy views don’t matter. Yes, this is an odd thing to say, but it is true. This is best illustrated by our current foreign policy path. The truth is our country’s economic policy will end up dictating our foreign policy for years to come. America can not afford to stay involved in nation building in Iraq and Afghanistan. We can not afford to spread our military thinner than we already have. The economic reality will hit us sooner or later; therefore, it won’t matter who is President. Of course, Ron Paul’s ideas would place America on the non-interventionist path sooner. In doing so, it will make the transition kinder and gentler than if another candidate wins.

He is a true conservative. While you disagree with him on foreign policy as a conservative you respect him for his voting record on lowering taxes, following the Constitution, and pushing for smaller government. His actions always seem to follow his words. These are things all conservatives can get behind. If conservatives do serious research on Ronald Reagan (GOP patron saint) they will realize that Ron Paul is the most similar of the lot. Ronald Reagan was emphatic while running in 1980 about abolishing the Department of Education, among other Departments. In fact, these ideas were in the Republican Party Platform through 1996. Here is a quote directly from the 1996 GOP Platform:

As a first step in reforming government, we support elimination of the Departments of Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, Education, and Energy, and the elimination, defunding or privatization of agencies which are obsolete, redundant, of limited value, or too regional in focus.

Isn’t it time conservatives followed through on the promise of less government. As a conservative voter you know that Ron Paul will work towards this goal because he has a voting record to prove it.

The Constitution is the law of the land, not the law of convenience. Conservatives know that citing the Constitution when it is in line with your positions and ignoring it otherwise is anti-American. After all, the principles in this document created America. Ron Paul follows the Constitution at all times even when he disagrees with it. Where he disagrees with it he proposes amending it. Our elected officials swear to uphold the Constitution when taking office. Why do so few of them end up following through on that oath? Ron Paul does.

His extremism is good for the country. You think he has extreme views and perhaps he does. This is a reason to vote for him. If you have a President who follows the Constitution to the letter you know he also believes in preserving the checks and balances in it. These checks and balances will temper his extremism. So if you fear his extremism, but support conservative ideas, you will get what you want, instead of what you fear.

He has a pragmatic approach to reforming Social Security. His plan to phase out Social Security programs is based in reality. He will not simply abolish it. He will approach it by covering those who have become dependent on it, and allow younger people to opt out of the program. Over a period of several years it will be phased out. This is his approach to other programs he wishes to abolish. It is all about graceful transitions, not overnight quick fixes.

He is a free market economist. He is a firm believer in free markets and free trade. He has studied economics for over 35 years. Many leading financial experts have endorsed him for President (source). If the economy is the most important issue to voters as many polls seem to indicate there is no better candidate to help put America on the proper course towards prosperity.

He is a man of his word. He is a politician of unsurpassed integrity. He does not participate in the lucrative Congressional pension program. He refused to accept medicare/medicaid while practicing medicine. Instead he sometimes gave away his services for free. He didn’t allow his children to accept government scholarship money to attend school. He releases weekly articles which sometimes explain why he votes a certain way on bills. Much like Ronald Reagan utilized going to the people to gain support for his policies, Ron Paul has done the same as a congressman, and will do so as President.

As a true conservative your views are more in line with Ron Paul than you think. I respectfully request you re-examine your angst for him. Consider what is good for America and the proper role of government, and you can’t go wrong by voting for Ron Paul on primary/caucus day in your state.

Paul: Fox News is 'scared of me'

PLAISTOW, N.H. -- Ron Paul said the decision to exclude him from a debate on Fox News Sunday the weekend before the New Hampshire Primary is proof that the network "is scared" of him.


"They are scared of me and don't want my message to get out, but it will," Paul said in an interview at a diner here. "They are propagandists for this war and I challenge them on the notion that they are conservative."


Paul's staff said they are beginning to plan a rally that will take place at the same time the 90-minute debate will air on television. It will be taped at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown.


"They will not win this skirmish," he promised.


The Fox debate occurs less than 24 hours after two back to back Republican and Democratic debates on the same campus sponsored by ABC News, WMUR-TV and the social networking website Facebook.


Paul, the Republican Texas Congressman, was wrapping up his final day of campaigning in New Hampshire until the Iowa Caucuses on Thursday.
He spent much of the day campaigning at diners in Manchester and Plaistow and downtown walks in Derry and Exeter.
