The Fix is in... Pakistan style

From this report by McClatchy comes the 'shocking' news that the fix was in for the upcoming elections in Pakistan.

Quote:
NAUDERO, Pakistan — The day she was assassinated last Thursday, Benazir Bhutto had planned to reveal new evidence alleging the involvement of Pakistan's intelligence agencies in rigging the country's upcoming elections, an aide said Monday.

Bhutto had been due to meet U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., and Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., to hand over a report charging that the military Inter-Services Intelligence agency was planning to fix the polls in the favor of President Pervez Musharraf.

Safraz Khan Lashari, a member of the Pakistan People's Party election monitoring unit, said the report was "very sensitive" and that the party wanted to initially share it with trusted American politicians rather than the Bush administration, which is seen here as strongly backing Musharraf.
No surprise right? Fixed elections in dictatorships posing as democratic nations is nothing new. Now when I first heard that Arlen Specter was in town for the assassination, I just figured he was there to get the 'magic bullet' story straight for Musharraf. Maybe not. Although the choice of these two U.S. politicians still baffles me. But whatever. That's not what really made my hair stand on end. That honor goes to the second to last paragraph.

Quote:
Lashari, who formerly taught environmental economics at Britain's Cranfield University, said the effort was directed at constituencies where the result was likely to be decided by a small margin, so it wouldn't be obvious.
Now it seems pretty obvious why they wouldn't bother showing this evidence to the Bushies. Can you say Florida 2000 or maybe Ohio 2004? They wouldn't bother telling Bushco about this because Bushco wrote the book on how to rig elections using swing states.
