Clinton Breaks Truce: Renews Attack on Obama Over Experience, Leadership

Jan. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton today renewed an attack on chief rival Barack Obama by questioning his experience and leadership abilities.

A day after a debate in which both candidates sought to put aside an earlier spat over race and gender, Clinton, in an interview with Bloomberg Television, said she was ``taken aback'' by Obama's comments that he doesn't view the job of president as an ``operating officer.''

``It's important that we have a president who understands that you have to run the government,'' Clinton, a senator from New York, said. Americans want a president ``who is hands-on'' and does more than set goals.

Her spokesman, Phil Singer, signaled that they planned to continue raising questions about Obama's experience and style heading into the next round of caucuses and primaries by sending out an e-mail highlighting Clinton's comments and posting a clip of her statement on the YouTube Web site.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded by saying Clinton ``may believe this is a race for who would make the best chief of staff, but Barack Obama believes this country is looking for a president who has the leadership, vision and ability to bring people of differing views together around a common agenda.''

Haven't we had a very "hands-on" pres. for the past 7 yrs.? Practically a dictator. This is one of the things I detect in Hillary's personality, "My way or the highway", although I may be wrong. I think she wants to be the next dictator.

There you have it, she couldn't hold out one day from her own promise, and she expects us to take her word for anything else? She has yet to show any class what so ever during this campaign, it's all gloves are off dirty politics just like the republicans that she keeps pretending she isn't. Good, I hope this comes back to bite her.

I never read the terms of the truce. It seems like a lot of this stuff is fair game and will happen whenever each considers themselves more qualified.

I was shocked when I flipped channels and saw what looked to be the tail end of a debate question similar to a great interview question we often give ("What is your greatest weakness?"). Obama had been in the middle of citing organizational skills as his stumbling block. Even if I am uncertain who I will vote for if the choice comes down to one between Obama and Clinton, I cringed when I heard this, thinking "what ammo he is giving her."

I'll probably just end up casting my vote of conscience for Edwards, unless the Obama vs. Hilary show needs a tie-breaker and Edwards has no chance.

He opened that door, I will say that much but I didn't think it was anything worth worrying about. His position on the "operating officer" (before it got all twisted) was that he loses pieces of paper and has a messy office and likes help organizing it. He obviously chose poor words to describe it and Hillary is now jumping him like the blood hungry pitbull she is. Anyone who watched the debate heard exactly what he said about it, if they didn't this will be used as pure slander.

This does not make me cringe at all, but I can see this statement potentially giving ammo to the opposition. To me "organizational skills" are code words for "bureaucratic skills". "Let's table this thought and form a committee to study it." "We'll table this idea for now & schedule another meeting." "We need to have a follow up meeting about this." Yup, I've seen "organizational skills" in action all too often.

Well the truce didn't last long.

Leadership skills are certainly a valid campaign issue.
They go to the very heart of what a President job is
Race and Gender are not germane to how one would operate.

I was pretty floored when I heard Obama say he is not organized.
Presidents have chief of staff, and a secretary to handle the paperwork; but an organized mind is essential to going thru policy options.

This is what I've been saying all along about Hillary.
She is disciplined, and capable of dealing with the various bureaus.
it IS her strong point, like Obama's is his vision skills.
