How many will NOT vote for Obama or Clinton, and will vote for the white male Republican instead?

The BIG ISSUE of this election, I would remind the Obama and Clinton devotees, is NOT NOT NOT getting a black man or a white woman elected.

It's about getting Republicans out of the White House.

Play your odds and fight fire with fire...or lose, I think. The Republicans are exceedingly good at this game, much better than Democrats.
Yes! Yesyesyes! This is such a pleasure to read; I was beginning to believe many of the Democrats here were assuming the fight for the Democratic nomination was going to automatically decide for the presidency as well.
Nothing is guaranteed, and the primary focus throughout this process should be reminding electorate (an unnerving percentage of whom seem to believe Iraq is on an "upswing") of the many many reasons no more Republicans can move into the White House, and as few as possible in the Congress.

Nothing is a guarantee, however every major indicator says that a Democrat will take the White House in November, and I disagree that a Democrat, whether it is Clinton or Obama, will NOT have support from Southern states.

I agree. The Southern states now have an even larger proportion of Black and Hispanic voters. And the Republican party has outdone themselves this last year or so in pissing off just about every person with less than an ivory complexion.

The south is totally in play for the Democrats this time.

You may be right and I guess we will know a lot more within the next week.

How about a Clinton/Obama ticket??

Not a chance against a McCain/Rice (as in Condi) ticket, again, in the south.

Besides, they hate each other. I've said for months that if Clinton is the nom, she'll pick Wes Clarke -- which will help the ticket in the south (he's from Arkansas.)

I am convinced that only Edwards at the top can win in the general, or maybe Obama/Edwards.

You know Curator...this makes perfect sense to some of us.

But...if this was true, then why aren't we seeing the Dems leading the Reps in national polls by at least 10-15%?? Sure polls have their flaws, but they also have their meaning. It bothers me that the Dems don't have a larger lead at this time...

I know you're an avid Edwards supporter, but unless something significant changes in his favor after next Tuesday, Edwards is out of it. Until this can happen, I can't give Edwards any credit for anything.

The one constant we have in our favor is that McCain is actually dumber than insane-Bush, he's too old, he will sound like a war-hawk, and when the spot-light is finally on him, he will look and act like Alfred E. Newman's first-born...

I can only hope for an Adm. James Stockwell-like performance from McCain.

With the Admirals classic line from the first debate, "What am I doing here?". Oh, man. That memory still makes me laugh out loud. Too bad YouTube doesn't have a clip of it.

The question is not whether this country is ready for a black president, although I am sure that will be asked here 3 or 4 times everyday until Obama wins the nomination or loses it.

The question is whether a liberal candidate will ever win in this country
again. The Republicans will again pander to the religious right. Members of the religious right would not vote for H. Clinton, Obama,
or Edwards. (On second thought, Hillary has become such a shameless panderer, she might well come out against Roe v. Wade if that is what it takes for her to win.)

But please, please keep calling Obama "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" and ask every day if this country is ready for a black president. And keep
those idiotic anecdotes coming, too, e.g., "I just saw a black person on a bus and I didn't like him, so this country is obviously not ready for a black president."

Saint Ronald invented the Stocksdale Performance, but no one cared.
In his second term, Nancy would whisper to Ron telling him to say, "I am doing the best I can."
