Time to ask the brutal yet obvious question...

Assuming Barack Hussein Obama can get the Democratic nomination, please ponder this question:

In November '08, when voters enter the privacy of their voting booths around the country and/or send in their absentee ballots, no matter if they reside in the racially-charged Red states or not, are they prepared to vote for a black man as president of the USA??

I think that has already been answered. Iowa, Nevada, SC,New Hampshire. All had white voters ready to pull the lever for Obama. I think this is a silly question. Those that have reservations won't vote for him.

I'm reserving my opinion until after Super Tuesday.

But I'm leaning towards yes, given a couple indicators.

One, the racist, xenophopic candidate for the Repubs, Tancredo, was totally ignored.

Two, the big issues that matter are the economy, and Iraq. And on both of these issues, Dems hold the overwhelming majority of public support. It will only be the TRUE racists who are willing to vote against Obama, and against their own best interest, just because he's half black.

I agree with this reply. There have been black mayors, governors, senators and congressmen, all elected despite racial feelings in their given jurisdiction. Why not president? I don't think the privacy of the voting booth is going to suddenly change people's minds.

And I'm getting pretty tired of this question too. It's been asked, in one form or another, on a regular basis.

Is that your experience? That people say and do in private what they say and do in public?

Do you think people post the same anonymously as they would with their real names?

True enough, those who wouldn't vote for Obama won't vote for Obama. The question...not at all silly, in my opinion...is how many of those are there?

There are enough Democrats who will vote for Obama to secure him the nomination, I'll grant that.

How many will NOT vote for Obama or Clinton, and will vote for the white male Republican instead?

The BIG ISSUE of this election, I would remind the Obama and Clinton devotees, is NOT NOT NOT getting a black man or a white woman elected.

It's about getting Republicans out of the White House.

Play your odds and fight fire with fire...or lose, I think. The Republicans are exceedingly good at this game, much better than Democrats.

I can only speak for myself about what I do in private. Obviously what other people do in private can not be part of my experience.

I agree, the point is NOT NOT NOT getting a black man or a white woman elected. It is getting the best person in the office, or at least the best person that is offered. I don't see that in any Republican candidate, and Obama is my opinion of the best that the Democrats are offering.

So reading in between the lines, you are saying there no longer are meaningful racial issues in the USA, and that most Americans will vote for president based on qualifications--not on race in this case, or gender, or religion??

You are also guessing that there is little hypocrisy between people's overt behavior and their true and private feelings?

I hope you are right, for if Obama gets the domination, and enough people are hypocritical about racial issues, John McCain will be our next president...

Some will -- but frankly, I don't think that either Obama or Clinton can win in November in the South, which is crucial to an electoral victory.
