Just because because economic downturns happen regularly does not mean that there is no explaination or remedy. While these economic 'corrections' can be seen as therapuetic that does not mean there was no root cause to be examined. We live in a money grubbing country where people define their own and others worth based on economic stature. This leads to people doing stupid things to accquire symbols of wealth that they simply do not have the ability to maintain. Until we stop waiting for the next IRS band-aid to arrive in the mail so we can buy more crap no one needs we will continue to see economic instability. America's economy will stabilize when Americans personal economy stabilizes.

you might be able to sell that bs to some, but not to me! this isn't going to be a little recession, and YOU KNOW IT! this was caused by banks gone wild over cheap money and predatory lending. so let's not pretend it's something that it isn't, K? this was caused by a complete lack of regulation and oversight. but as long as the rich were getting richer, and the nation's wealth was being redistributed to the top - full speed ahead, eh? let them eat cake, right? piss on that!

The crisis that we aren't calling a crisis because is an unpleasant word, also because it has been overused. We've "had it up to here" with crises. We now have Situations. Hence, the Situation Room.

I suggest that cycle is unnecessary, except as it alternately supports and saves a Prevailing Order. A market is not the weather, for fuck's sake, at whose benevolence we thrive and whose capriciousness we go all New Orleans.

True. I can remember back in the fall of '97-'98 when we were having the largest housing slump in decades. And we were fighting two simultaneous wars. And the national deficit was above 9 Trillion at the same time foreign countries were converting from a dollar economy to the Euro and buying up collapsed American companies at pennies on the dollar.

it's just a silly phase, and all we need to do is make W's tax cuts permanent and throw everyone a check for $600 and everything will be just hunky dory.

Move along folks. nothing to see here.

Maybe I should be asking what you think can be done to bring some of the manufacturing jobs back to America.

If you want to bring manufacturing jobs back to America you could start by forcing American companies that manufacture abroad to pay their overseas employees at least the U.S. minimum wage. You take the cheap labor away and the jobs will return. Once you add the cost of shipping to the minimum wage employees there will no longer be incentive to ship American jobs abroad.

How about we stop sending "OUR" jobs overseas period.
