The Florida Vote

Time for another sticky.

Most say Hillary is going to take this one. It was interesting to hear John Stewart rip this setup a new one last night. They count for so much of the vote yet the DNC did not allow campaigning there, what a crock. No wonder they were stripped of their delegates. Anyway, should be an interesting outcome but I think Hillary will take it.

It cracks me up that she's campaigning [nto that they call it that] in Florida only after she start flailing in states whose delegates are still allowed. You know what'll piss off a lot of democrats is if Hillary manages to weasel in the delegates in order to edge out Obama. That'll damage the party even further and drive independents out completely.

A majority of the 4,049 delegate votes on the Democratic side and a majority of the 2,345 delegate votes on the Republican side. That is all that matters.

Regardless of candidate or favorites, IMO with the DNC not allowing campaigning nor advertisements they don't deserve any delegates. Nothing against the people of Fla but any system where the voters must decide for or against candidates where their words are suppressed is flawed. I put the full blame on the DNC for this, there is just no excuse for it.

DNC rules are DNC rules. Florida, like Michigan, knew the rules and chose to break them out of stupid greed and a lust for attention. So they must pay the price.

I'm just happy that Florida gave us Bush's first term. The Dems down there must be really stupid. Maybe the DNC should consider a permanent exclusion.

That's true, but then again it's only one of countless problems with the two parties. neither one truly supports a fair electoral process, and each in their own way have in recent history undermined or suppressed voters in some fashion. The fact that they insist on having the two states which are each the least representative of America run first in order to squeeze good candidates from the race proves the motives of both parties highly suspect.

What'll be interesting is to see in the general election how these two states "reward" the D.I.N.O.'s in kind for being stripped of their representation within the party.

Yep. This drive to be first 'because our voters are more important', or whatever flawed excuses they used deserves to be squashed. I don't agree that the same states get the right to go first every time either, but if you have a problem with the rules, work to change the rules.

Here's an interesting piece from First thoughts: FL showdown, sideshow - First Read - msnbc.com

Quote:
*** The Florida sideshow: While everything is on the line in Florida's GOP primary, that's certainly not the case on the Dem side, given that the DNC stripped Florida of all of its delegates for moving up its primary before February. In turn, it has become nothing more than a beauty contest. But that hasn't stopped the Clinton campaign -- and some pundits as well -- from trying to make it count, even though the Democratic candidates all pledged not to campaign in the state. In fact, Clinton holds a victory rally of sorts tonight in Davie, FL. But the Obama folks seem to have a point: If the nomination is about winning the most delegates, as the Clinton campaign says, then Florida shouldn't count, right? To put it another way, as we've said before, if you’re heading to the playoffs, you can't suddenly say that some exhibition game now matters. The other issue for Clinton is that she's running against herself, and anything short of a big win could backfire. All this said, what will the average viewer tonight take away? A Clinton win in the most famous swing state in the country? Will the average viewer even care that the DNC penalized the state on the delegate front and that no one campaigned there? This is what the Clinton campaign is counting on.
Hillary, who just ripped Obama about this same thing made her presence known and already has the victory party underway.

And I agee with you are this going first business. The DNC needs to address this issue. It should probably be a lottery system and they should also spread out the contests more. Same with the RNC. And the two parties should harmonize the decisions.

Florida ruined its reputation in 2000. The rest of the country thinks they are a laughing stock anyway. No effect (even if it did count).
