Obama said he wanted to speak personally on the subject so that voters in the Jewish community could hear "from the horse's mouth" that "there is no substance there and that there is a strong and deep commitment and connection to the Jewish community that should not be questioned." If he said the American thing, "Liberty and justice for all. Freedom of religion for all. A real American does not support one group over another. Our principles are deep-rooted in equality.", Americans wouldn't vote for him. Harmlessly ironic, or a testament to the poor state of modern America?

Then again, if he spoke like a real American, maybe people would vote for him.
