a very good post Winthrop.
Yes it is proper and right for each generation to look around, see the failures of the previous one's and believe they can straighten out the perceived (or empiracle) wrongs that exist. without this trait we would never evolve socially. Lord knows i was critical of my father's generation. Later one I found out that some things were wrong headed thinking' Some were just the nature of humanity that I learned with age. Age will confer some degree of wisdom - just by hanging around long enough to see the world as it truely is, and not in the reformist eyes we wear when we are young, and anxious to step up to the plate. Ya. we were pretty big on social injustice, and were the first really big anti-war generation. But the dope was never unleashed before on a whole generation. and we became the guinea pigs, finding some like pot OK. Some like heroin as being even worse than we were warned of. All and all; the freaks ( you gotta be my age to use that term, as we lovingly called ourselves) did OK. I'm kinna proud of Talking 'bout my Generation.

Indeed!
My question, does your Freak Flag still proudly wave? I have enough, but it tends to curl and twist in what, for me at least, is an undesirable way. But whatever the length of the flame, the fire still burns! |

This should be interesting. There are Republicans that will refuse to vote for McCain (too liberal) and dems who will refuse to vote for Hillary (too conservative, too unlikeable, too much of a flip-flop, too, too, too).
McCain attracts independents (much) more than Hillary. Seems the nod goes to McCain in that matchup. Obama attracts indies and some Repubs. Seems the nod goes to Obama in that matchup.

but it does wave. Sadly, the hair is still there - but at conformist length. The days of long haired humaniods roaming the earth all all but extinct - unless you are a star. But here is a little ditty I remember that kinna sums up how difficult and weird the world is. Ten Years After I'd Love to Change the World Everywhere is freaks and hairies Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity Tax the rich, feed the poor Till there are no rich no more I'd love to change the world But I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you Population keeps on breeding Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy Life is funny, skies are sunny Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly I'd love to change the world But I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you World pollution, there's no solution Institution, electrocution Just black and white, rich or poor Them and us, stop the war I'd love to change the world But I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you

I'm not blaming anything on you aging hippies. I'm merely pointing it out to you guys that your constant accusations of Obama supporters being young, naive, and playing the race card have completely soured me on your candidate. Maybe not you personally, but so many Hillary supporters have.
I will not vote for Hillary. I will either write in Obama, or vote McCain. And, don't fool yourself. Hillary will not get us out of Iraq. Wait till she gets the nomination. Watch her revert back to chickenhawk status once she knows she no longer has to pander to liberals. Just fucking watch. And, the reason I would vote McCain would be out of political strategy. That fucker is a one and done president if there ever was one, and Obama will certainly be in there by '12. Hillary wins, she'll weasel her way to re-election, then pass the torch right back to another Bush. That's what happens when we "get real" about who "can win, and be effective in Washington" . Shell be effective alright, to the Bush dynasty in '16. I've read they're already preparing that Latino Bush guy (Jeb's son?). |

In campaign terms that means reading the list of donors to a particular candidate, because that's who'll be reaping the rewards and livin' like fat rats if their pick gets the office.

That she "has a plan" crap is right from the Karl Rove playbook. Accusing the opponent of being incompetent, unrealistic, and using that very word, "plan", ad nauseum. Hope you're proud of yourself. Last edited by StillNoScript; 02-06-2008 at 11:51 PM. |
