The same people that create the frenzy. There seems to be a wholesale attack on preventive medicine/nutrition in the media the last few years. If you are going to get on t.v. and create a frenzy about the lack of a certain vaccine, then at least offer some advice on how to try to prevent the illness in another (non profitable) way.
Like I said...who can you trust to believe??

Right...the existing system is indeed broken. Perhaps it needs to be scrapped, but that won't happen. Profit is very effective in driving one to succeed. There wouldn't be any need to charge ultra high prices for some medications, if billions weren't spent on wasteful practices by these companies. Perhaps we need to change the way in which they write off these excesses.
My contention is that if we try to create a universal health care system around the current model, which has no cost controls, sure more people might have access to insurance or health care, but how long will it take before it's unaffordable...and then what??

Obviously, changing brakes is much easier than delivering a baby. There are a large number of people that suffer at the hands of incompetence in the medical field, and they should be compensated.
There are also a large number of people who suffer at the hands of incompetence in the auto repair industry.

At the risk of delving into fodder for an entirely new thread, I will state that our legal system is just as broken as the healthcare system.
I'll take the US system over all of them no matter the imperfections.

Imagine being a doctor that is completely innocent of any wrongdoing, but his ins. co. settles a frivolous lawsuit because it is more COST EFFECTIVE than litigation...!!!
This is a rare case and if anyone does not fight for their innocence then they are guilty of denigrating the integrity of the system.

The FDA is one of the most underfunded areas, and although this is the answer, good luck having it come to fruition.

And providing more than 25 single-syllable words of information, especially legal or medical speak, to the general public is likely to remain unread!!

My take is that PEOPLE must do their own research and make their own decisions. This can certainly be aided by industry information, but at the end of the day...who can anyone trust other than themselves???
