you have it backwards....nursing schools CLOSED in the 1990's because females quit going...you know why?
because nursing is a back breaking work that burns out it's best people.
there are only waiting lists because all the schools closed...not because so many people want to be nurses
lol!!!!!

The health care crisis is not due to nurses making too much money

it has utterly nothing to do with it.

follow the money.

hmmm...I haven't been able to find anything about schools closing...it could be localized...but I was'nt implying demand was up...only that the demand exceeded the capabilities of the school since few that were qualified chose to teach...

I know alot of people that dropped out of the program because of the wait...

google nursing program waiting list....

this works too..
Nursing waiting list grows long - News

A national nursing shortage is driving an increase in admissions to nursing programs across the country, Blackburn said.

A lack of a nursing faculty is also to blame, and the program will only be able to expand after hiring more faculty to provide more clinical experience, she said.

right..your talking about today..I am telling you most schools closed in the 1990's because tech jobs were more attractive to women than giving bed baths for the next 30 years..not to mention working overnight..weekends...holidays and still making less than the plumber or the electrician...

we are at the beginning of a nursing shortage unlike any ever...so it is likely that enrollment will go back up...hence schools may open back up.

but the bottom line is, it will be a massive shortage due to baby boomers retiring...and ironically, baby boomers needing more acute care in hospital settings.

no one is forecasting that those demands will be met.

so the last thing people need to be thinking is that nurses make too much money.

they will need to be paid more...not less

They will get paid more until the supply is greater than the demand for them....There is no arbitrary wage that somebody can say is the right wage...but if wages are high(relatively) it may explain why some are opting to stay nurses instead of teaching...

The schools are still closed where you are at? They never even closed here...

It is because the customer is not paying for the product! The market forces are NOT at play here!

Think about this --- those of you who are old enough to.

In the late 60's early 70's the cost of healthcare was an ENTIRELY different issue for the american people. The focus was the $10.00 aspirin, the outrageous physician fees, the hospital errors.....

The people were SHUT UP not by these issues being addressed but by the insurance industry stepping in (along with the government) and saying "not to worry---we will pay for it" with a promise to bring down the costs.

They lied----people died!

The corporations then had a field day!! They could charge whatever they wanted and the only person there to examine the product no longer felt invested in those charges. AND as a perk---neither did the politicians who were just as happy to focus on the industries interest in them, as politicians!

And to make things even sweeter the repukes came in and convinced the working american that they could play in the market. Ignore Keatings S&L crap---ignore Enron---You too can profit off the health misfortunes of others!

Bingo---gold mine!

Once entrenched any idiot could have predicted that there would be people who would argue as many have here--that the termination of the problem would be worse than the problem itself---it would cost jobs, it would destroy the market, blah, blah, blah!

It is a scheme made in repuke heaven!

this seems most likely(it makes sense to me)

how does one deal with this or where does one start?

would any politician today even consider addressing this issue?
