Why is healthcare expensive?

Is it because the cost of malpractice insurance?

Is it because of pharmaceutical companies profit margins?

Is it because of the cost of medical school?

Is it because of .....

this is really open to all opinions and debate(or reality checks) i dont think "universal healthcare" can really be addressed without greater understanding of why it is in such need, i dont think any healthcare plan proposed by any candidate to date addresses the meat of the issue which isnt 'that we want/need to have medical insurance', but why do we need to have medical insurance?

why does it cost so much, shouldnt addressing this be the first step in insuring that everyone does have access to medical care?

From what I understand it is also very difficult to complete nursing school...there is a several year wait to get into the program here....not enough teachers...which limits the supply and drives up their wages.

to be sure that is just another contributing factor in the equation.

first i was wondering where to begin in making health care more affordable, but i dont even know where to start...responsibilty does start at home but at the same time i want less government in my home.

tax incentives for healthy people who can pass the APFT(70%) in accordance with their age group...NOT! being healthy is its own reward

At my company, you have to complete health screening (it's free). Well, you don't have to, but if you don't, they will cut your HSA contribution by $100. $100 is $100! Thus you are motivated to take preventive care.

if true this makes sense but it isnt a very feel good revelation...healthcare proffesionals are in demand because there is a shortage of them. ????, but i know several RNs who work 36 hours a week (3 -12 hour days BY CHOICE) they make a good living doing this 3 day aweek are they doing this to themselves? perpetuating the "shortage" to give themselves more bargaining leverage?
