a bitter pill - bill's campaign chief endorses obama

Bill Clinton's campaign chief backs Obama

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Columbus Dispatch : Bill Clinton's campaign chief backs Obama

One of the chief architects of President Clinton's 1992 victory is bypassing his former boss's wife and endorsing Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for the Democratic presidential nomination.

David Wilhelm, who managed Clinton's campaign and later became chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told The Dispatch that he will support Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York if she wins the nomination, but believes Obama is the leader the country needs.

“After eight years of divisiveness and partisanship and rancor, this guy gives us a shot at something approaching a common ground, a chance to act together for the good of the country,” Wilhelm said from his home in Bexley.

Wilhelm, who has spent the past decade working in private business in Chicago, said he has developed “a closer personal relationship with Barack” and nothing has occurred to cause any animosity with the Clintons.

“I honor the president and my participation in his campaign very very much,” Wilhelm said. “This is a different time and a different choice. Some of my very closest friends in life, let alone politics, are managing and running and advising the Obama campaign.”

Wilhelm had supported Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware before he quit the Democratic race.

Wilhelm, one of Illinois' superdelegates – a select group of party leaders and activists who can support whichever candidate they want – said Obama's nomination appears inevitable after his big victories in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia last night.

“He's got tremendous momentum, maybe undeniable momentum for the nomination at this point. His lead among pledged delegates (those who have voted in state elections) is more than 130 and he's won 20 states to her 11 at this point.”

Wilhelm said he decided to announce his endorsement roughly three weeks before Ohio's March 4 primary because “it's time for superdelegates to begin to ratify the choice of Democratic primary voters. She would need to win 70 percent of the remaining delegates at stake in order to draw even among pledged delegates and I think that is highly unlikely.”

Wilhelm said Ohio is a must-win state for Clinton to remain a viable candidate.

The common ground thing is like gravity. When the moon is in the long-part of its elliptical orbit, we have more common ground because it is closer. This causes the tides to be higher or lower. As we gain more common ground with Obama, the tides shift in his favor.

Which is also like evolution. If you have three species, the tides from one shift towards whichever shares more common ground (possibly allowing the two species to breed). The breeding, I suppose, would require they do more than orbit... they have to literally crash into each other. This is like slope/particle theory. If we got close enough, maybe we would crash into the sun (two species breeding).

That's great news. Especially since a lot of Democrats are still undecided and were sitting around waiting for David Wilhelm to endorse someone before deciding who to vote for in the primary.
