Clinton hints at shared ticket

Clinton hints at shared ticket

Clinton hints at shared ticket - Yahoo! News

By JIM KUHNHENN and CALVIN WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton, fresh off a campaign-saving comeback, hinted Wednesday at the possibility of sharing the Democratic presidential ticket with Barack Obama — with her at the top. Obama played down his losses, stressing that he still holds the lead in number of delegates.

On a night that failed to clarify the Democratic race, John McCain Tuesday clinched the Republican nomination. Clinton won primaries in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, halting Obama's winning streak. Obama won in Vermont.

Both Democrats insisted on Wednesday they had the best credentials to go head to head — or as Clinton put it "toe to toe" — against McCain.

Asked on CBS's "The Early Show" whether she and Obama should be on the same ticket, Clinton said:

"That may be where this is headed, but of course we have to decide who is on the top of ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me."

Despite Clinton's victories Tuesday night, Obama came away with a large share of delegates, too, in counting that continued Wednesday.

"We still have an insurmountable lead," Obama said.

"I don't think it will necessarily go to the convention floor," he told reporters aboard his plane before taking off from San Antonio for Chicago.

He also said he will challenge Clinton on her foreign policy credentials.

"Was she negotiating treaties? Was she handling crises? The answer is no," he said. "She made a series of arguments on why she should be a superior candidate. I think it's important to examine that argument."

Obama had a lead in Texas caucuses before counting closed for the night Tuesday, to be resumed Wednesday.

I think that is a good idea. After a few years as VP he would be able to shore up his foreign policy experience. Clearly this is a reasonable way to go.

And the people in all the states she's ignored clearly said it should be Obama. He's not going for this and good for him. He's no where near out of this thing yet and still leads without question.

I really dislike how if you are not in a major state that you aren't counted. Our country is made up of more than 4 or 5 big states.

i wonder if hillary would accept the VP, since SHE'S the one LOSING the delegate count AND popular vote!?

she's got a lot of balls suggesting that she'd let obama be her VP.
why the hell should the LOSER be the top of the ticket?

to the gop's delight we now have 7 more weeks to go through before it dawns on hillary that mathmatically, she's already lost.

she'll get a little bump from this, but it won't last, and the more she tears obama down durning the next 7 weeks, the more she will find that it will backfire on her. the reason obama's winning is BECAUSE the majority of the people in this country have ABSOLUTELY HAD IT with this brand of politics. and we know that if hillary gets elected, not a god damned thing is going to change in this country for another 4 years.

Even if she COULD overcome her own nature and play second fiddle, again, how does this wash with people who say they will not vote for her "under any circumstances"?

How does it wash with those who won't vote for Obama under any circumstances...or are we all too enamored for there to be any of THEM?

HOW IS IT THAT DEMOCRATS CAN EVEN IMAGINE THAT THE WAY TO WREST THE WHITE HOUSE AWAY FROM LANDED WHITE GENTRY BAD GUYS IS TO PUT NOT ONE, BUT TWO, MILESTONE GAMBLES ON THE SAME TICKET?

I think it'd be great if they started working together now, whoever 'loses' the nomination agreeing to be VP.

I haven't seen such a harmonious paring since Reagan/Bush
