Why Delegates At All [Either Party]?

Why do the parties even bother with delegates in their primaries? What's wrong with a straight up'r'down popular vote?

Because the right person might not be installed, if left to the people?

Especially when you're party is called the "Democratic" party.

That's why I designate so very few true Democrats. The rest are D.I.N.O.'s and then there's the Hillarycrats/Hillaryphants who might as well be extremist right wingers.

I don't know if there is anything we can do. Short of people defecting to some third party en masse, they have no reason to change the way they do things. The people with the power to change the system are the party leaders, put into place by the very system we want changed. They're not going to kick the ladder out from under them while they're still standing on it.

This is not out of the realm of possibility except as we SAY it is.

It would be worth it just to see how they squirm out of there being no delegates left for a candidate with landslide popular support.

The filing deadline is June 1st.

It couldn't hurt to circulate one of those emails that accumulate signatures with each forwarding.

Quote:
Dear Executive, Legislature and Justice:

We The People agree on almost nothing. We DO, however, agree that our election process is a spectacle and a sham. In light of the abuses that the present system accommodates, we are untroubled that states with smaller populations will not have the same strength of representation in Congress with abolition of the Electoral College.

Fewer people SHOULD have less strength in the representation of their interests. Fewer people with equally strong representation is how you get crap like bridges to a handful of people on an island in the boonies. Regardless, we have decided to give it a whirl. It defies probability that it could be any less egalitarian or any more exploitative than the present Sort Of System.

We will be in touch with a full list of grievances, because all y'all are REALLY blowing the governance of this country. This is just Item One: Abolition of the Electoral College...needless to say but we'll say it anyway, also Super Delegates...the president elected by a straight popular vote of at least ____% majority.
Can we even fill in that blank? I know I don't want a president who is favored by 51% of the people, improvement though that would be over what we have now.

we are either too stupid or to disinterested to have let THEM get away with this mockery of choice for so long, it is of course a charade of limited choices, that is, if you may choose to call yourself a democrat or agree to call yourself a republican but dont for a second believe that your vote is worth squat because without us (Democrat/Republican) YOU ARE NOTHING...so get on board... its not like we are going to do anything to disrupt the status quo (the usa is a 2party DEMOCRAT VS REPUBLICAN system), sure we will cheat lie fight dirty and commit fraud, scoff at the laws we use to keep you in line, but as long we win...it will have been worth it.

I guess the idea is that the party's nominate at the convention.
Conventions were the main way to elect a nominee, before the modern primary system.

So it's kinna a hang over from the old days.
Besides the partys love the conventions -great exposure.
