My brother and I were talking about this the other night and he brought up an interesting point. The brass is very resistant to change no matter what it is. In the '60s, the establishment was not so keen to get M-16's. The brass bitched about mounds of dead soldiers because the round it delivered (5.56) was much less substantial when compared to the 7.62 round the M-14 used. Never mind the fact that you could carry 3 times the ammo for it. They even purposely damaged test weapons sent to arctic command for trials. What is funny tho, is that he is one of the old .45 crowd and abosolutely hates the 9mm. Fortunately his rank and job provide him some leeway in that department. I do think that the best person for the job should fill the slot, sexual preferance be damned. The brass will gripe about it right or wrong. I think a better person to ask would be those people the gays would be working with, and most of THEM from I've been told, don't have problem with it.
