I should think that a lottery/drawing would be apt to render most quickly the most diverse group, as well that it would be a more populist gesture, signifying confidence in his popular support.

It is within CA Dem party rules to allow campaigns to trim the number of people running for delegate to the National Convention. This rule is to prevent unknown delegates from getting elected. It limits to 3 candidates for each open Delegate spot.
Initially, both campaigns had invoked this option, and then, virtually later the same day, they both backed off. I just got back from the caucus (for CA-16) -- and all 38 people that had filed were on the Obama ballot. Clinton won in this district, but of the 5 Pledge Delegates we send, Clinton gets 3 and Obama gets 2. ![]()
