Hillary supporters used the worst possible array of arguments to supers for why they should endorse her over Obama. My favorate is the idea that a candidate who blew Hillary out of the water on Febuary 5th, even in non-caucus, predominately white, swing-vote, industrial and large states, somehow couldn't win elections or garner votes from a broad range of demographics.
For her part, Hillary's base constitutes the 65+ voters, slightly over half the white woman's vote and blue collar workers who're unable [thanks in part to Hillary's support of NAFTA and predatory lending] to spare the time needed to educate themselves about the candidates or issues in this election. Yeah, the Alien queen's drones just helped pour the last shovels that buried her campaign.

the NYTimes has Obama at 1859, Hillary at 1689. The magic # is 2025.
![]() there are 217 Pledged and 274 Supers left. 54 Supers haven't been named yet. A good chart here: Democratic Delegate Counts - Election Guide 2008 - Dem. Delegates - The New York Times

First:
How many superdelegates do you think want to be painted to have declined to support a candidate because he is black? THAT is the core of her argument. The argument is VERY POORLY veiled in numbers that don't hold up! In fact, Obama has won the white vote in as many states has Hillary as won in total. He has won something like 14 states where the African American population is less than 5%. He beat her on the white vote in 2 states he lost in. Is Hillary trying to suggest that the only hard working Americans are white? Or that the only hard working white americans are in only the states she won their vote in? She has placed all of her SD's in the awful position of falling for a racist argument---that ain't good! If you don't think their opponents will use it against them---EVEN IF HILLARY LOSES---think again. Second She contradicts her --ALL voters should be counted argument when she trys to argue that ONLY the voters in MI, FLA, PA, and Ohio should be "all important" to the SD decision making. That argument is an insult to the intelligence of the superdelegates and especially those who live in the states she is blowing off to make this argument. Third The argument about being outspent and still winning is ridiculous as hell in a primary season where the Republican nominee was outspent about 10 times to 1 and still won the nomination---in 2 months! It is whining, it highlights poor fiscal management AND it suggests that the person she wants to oppose would have an edge in knowing how to win without money but she can only SQUEAK by. Fourth The down ballot race argument is absurd (and again insulting the intelligence of the SD's) given that the down ballot dem just won a repuke seat---TUES in INDIANA (one of those bellweather states that Hillary could not even carry by 1 full percentage point)!! Fifth It is NEVER a good idea to LIE to a person you are trying to persuade is it? Well then why would anyone suggest that the white blue collar worker were the ones who swayed the elections in the past? Kerry AND Clinton BOTH lost the white male vote Kerry got 37% of them (44% of the white female vote) and LOST-- BUT---Billy boy only got 38% of the white male vote (48% of the white female vote)---AND WON in 1996! So losing both male and female white voters does not spell failure. Likewise Kerry got only 47% of the non college grad vote to Bill's 51% which was off set by Kerry getting 49% of college grads and 55% of postgrads to Bill's only getting 47% of grads and only 52% of post grads. Is Hillary trying to convince people with some degree of intelligence that the 4% difference among the nongrads is what did it for Bill? No one is that stupid. Anyway, I would judge that the increase in the number of superdelegates Obama got today reflects how they are feeling about this sort of "absurdity is us" stategy the Hillary supporting SD have adopted. |

Excellent point by point RK.
Can't help thinking about, and being disappointed by the fact, that these are typically Republican tactics. To cling to ridiculously inflated reasons for their position was something I thought was below Democrats.

Which is exactly how Obama wants it. How do you think he kept getting Supers to come out for him the whole time the Rev. Wright bullshit was going on? He had them already committed, just not publicly. so even though he went therough the roughest patch, so far, of his campaign, he kept pullling out Supers, one at a time, to give the appearance of a continued stream of endorsements. It's a good strategy.

Tom Allen, Representative from Maine, has just endorsed Barack Obama.
According to MSNBC, Obama has picked up 20 superdelegates since last Tuesday.
