Yes, there are people who could use that money. But it's phantom money, with not a single guarantee that gas prices will come down one red cent, but an absolute guarantee that even less money will be available for desperately needed infrastructure repair. To top it off, the money lost will be tacked on to the national debt, incurring interest, costing more money in the long run, and adding to the cost of any repairs.

You forget that 'Big Daddy Diesel wants us all to use our stimulus checks for gasoline. Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'. We all lose thanks to nearly eight years of nothing from Bush when it comes to alternative fuels.

I think the gas-tax proposal is a great idea. The $30 you get, you can spend on gas.

Better yet, why not figure out how to harness our pets? The dog beasts have so much energy, going to waste. Something like a treadmill, with a picture of a rabbit.. you know, kind of like greyhound races. Maybe a few dog enticement scents, and your dog is saving you money.
