I'm thinking the USA is a melting pot...only up to a point. There certainly today is more integration of all people but there remains this 'group' stigma. There's Blacks, Hispanics, Jews, gays & lesbians, rich, poor, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Red-Necks, middle-class, blue collar, white collar, certain religious groups, etc. and many live in clusters. Then we have Little Tokyo, and Little China, and Little Saigon, south side of the tracks, inner-city, etc. The USA is a long way from being an open and fully accepting melting pot.

I can't remember who said this but I'm thinking it was Chris Rock who said something like 'show me a single White person who is willing to switch places with a Black person' referring to how bad discrimination remains in the USA...

I guess I put too much faith in Obama...I really hope he can unite us.

Women are third in line after American Indians in that respect.
I agree with your comment, and thirty-forty years ago I could understand this sensitivity...but why does this continue to exist today?

Is one answer that racial discrimination runs nearly as deep today as in the past? Maybe more covert today?

When it comes to Whites and most other ethnicity's or races, there remains some social division but it usually seems workable. But when it comes to Whites and Blacks, in many cases the division runs very deep...and it's as if both parties have this chip on their shoulders and each are very very slow to find acceptance of each other...

Interesting comment...in that if I hate my neighbor, it's no big deal as long as they are not Black (assuming I am White). If they are Black then I'm a racist.

They might simply be a lousy-assed neighbor...period...and if they are Black, and I have no use for them, and want them out of my neighborhood, then I'm a racist. If they are White and I want them out of my neighborhood, then no big deal.

This is a huge part of the problem we are facing. And as long as we have these types of situations, they will not spawn open and honest dialogue between people. So we isolate more and the problem continues...

Yep..... Their are issues of perception but there are ways around them......

None of this has anything to do w/ my point....... Looking for reasons to hate someone..... If your neighbor is a a loZyass neighbor for whatever reason it doesn't sound like you need to be doing much looking.........
