Bush makes the ultimate sacrifice...
Bush: I Gave Up Golf For The Troops - Politics on The Huffington Post
Bush: I Gave Up Golf For The Troops The Huffington Post | May 13, 2008 06:30 PM As violence in Iraq continues -- clashes today left 11 dead and 19 injured -- President Bush has for the first time revealed the great sacrifice he's made for the sake of our soldiers: he's given up golf. From an interview with Politico and Yahoo News: "I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal." Bush said he made that decision after the August 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, which killed Sergio Vieira de Mello, the top U.N. official in Iraq and the organization's high commissioner for human rights. "I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life," he said. "I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, 'It's just not worth it anymore to do.'" Now watch this drive... |

Believe it or not he's probably sincere.
It's just that he's been so out of touch with anything resembling normal life in America, he doesn't realize what he's saying is outlandish. Remember this is a boy who was brought up in a home who's father when seeing a grocery scanner was amazed. George senior was a great American till he got rich and powerful, and forgot what grocery shopping entailed. Like most of the people we elect they come from a class of society that most of us can't even imagine. Imagine your friend who's father was a cop multiplied a thousand times. Coupling all that with his less the stellar I.Q, and inability to foresee faux pas because of it, and you get statements like this one. |

I completely understand his decision to make the ultimate sacrifice of giving up golf. Golf courses have sand traps and that's closer than Bush ever wants to get to actually fighting in a war in the desert.

I could swear that Bush was playing golf while people were dying in
New Orleans.

Well, to his credit, if what he said is true, he's sacrificed more than a hell of a lot of Americans have.
