Rumor that Edwards may Endorse Obama Tonight

The Obama campaign has announced a "major national endorsement" for a rally tonight at 7pm in Michigan, and the rumor mill is swirling that it is none other than Sen. John Edwards. Time's Mark Halperin is teasing as much at his Web site, with a photo of Edwards and the text, "Ready to choose? Ready to hope?"

Edwards has certainly dropped some hints in recent days. He's chided Hillary Clinton over her comments about race, said he can't figure out how Clinton could ever win the nomination, and even said he planned to endorse the person he voted for in North Carolina's primary, using (it seems) the word "him."

On the other hand, in an interview with People magazine, Edwards said of Obama, "Sometimes I want to see more substance under the rhetoric."

From Huffington Post, ten minutes ago

better late than never, i guess.

i'm not sure it will help much at THIS stage of the game...

looks to me like edwards wanted to make sure who was going to get the nomination before he went out on a limb. pfffft!

I was really disgusted with him, but now I wonder if maybe he
hesitated because of his wife's support of Hillary Clinton.

I did appreciate his modesty on the Today show last Friday --
when he said that Barack Obama was doing just fine without the
endorsement of a failed presidential candidate. I think Mrs. Edwards
is completely wrong about "the first woman president" and about
Hillary's health plan, but I can see how a caring husband might
defer to a wife who is ill. Sorry if that is sappy.

I don't know about that. I saw Edwards speak about a week ago and he said at that time an endorsement from him could hurt the party since it would probably piss off the supporters of what ever candidate he didn't endorse. He felt it would be best if he didn't. I can see his point.

Maybe that's changed. I understand he got about 7% of the vote in WV. Being the only white boy on the ballot he would have kicked ass in that state.

I honestly think Edwards has integrity, and he is endorsing now because he can see how hurtful it will be to the party for Hillary
to drag this on until Denver.

I hope Obama makes him Poverty Czar.
