How about a Black lesbian atheist for president???
Can a presidential candidate come out in favor of gay and lesbian marriage and be elected to office??
Can a presidential candidate proclaim they are gay or lesbian and be elected to office?? Can a presidential candidate proclaim they are an atheist or agnostic and be elected to office?? Can a presidential candidate be unmarried, with no children, and be elected to office?? Can a presidential candidate choose to live with an opposite-sex partner, not wishing to get married, and be elected to office?? Can a presidential candidate who is Black or female be elected to office?? Today, most Americans are heterosexual White, Christian, married if in a relationship. Americans to date have not been able to face needed change in this country due solely to their self-serving needs. They apparently fear this change and assume it will turn their worlds upside down and end all life as they know it...blah, blah, blah. Don't know how long it will take for us to fully evolve in this area, to a point of no discrimination and judgment of others, but I'm guessing maybe 200 years. Meanwhile we will keep talking about this stuff, moving forward one step, backward one step, and life remains great exactly the way it is. Personally, it's this lack of acceptance, and righteous judgment of others, that allows me to believe contemporary religions and their dogma are not only BS but also detrimental to mankind...

Well in all fairness she doesn't have a green mohawk.

There remains much bigotry and hatred in this country, where people want less government in their lives. The republicans have an organization about having less government in our lives. Yet, they want the government to prevent gay marriage; how is that less government. They won't even consider making prostitution legal; how is that less gov? How about legalizing some drugs; the war isn't working, and it's costing us an awful lot of money. Why on earth is it illegal for two consenting adults to enter into a mutually agreed to contract of any kind? Why is alcohol legal, but majuiana isn't? I'm of the opinion that only an atheist can be counted on to make decisions based upon our consitution, rather than on his religious beliefs. Am I wrong?

I think we're at the point in our history where a black or a female could be elected President. No on all the other counts, though. Well, an "out" homosexual or atheist could not be elected President. I'm a bit sceptical of Barack Obama's religious conversion, myself, though in my eyes, that's a good thing. His birth father was a Muslim apostate turned atheist, his mother was an agnostic, and his step-father was a nominal Muslim who rarely went to Mosque and sent Barack to a Catholic school. It just seems curious to me that a man with that background finds religion when he enters politics.
I don't think it will take 200 years. 100 years ago, blacks and women weren't even allowed to vote, now we've got a black man and a woman vying for the Democratic Presidential nomination. I honestly don't think it will be that much longer before America has a non-white or woman president, though much of the population will be determined to make it difficult. |

The USA has been a nation for about 230 years, and the world citizens have been around for thousands of years...yet look at all the racial and ethnic strife that remains. I appreciate your comments but I'll stick with my bet that it will take another 200 years for the general discrimination and judgment of others to be replaced with a compassion for all life. The first thing I believe that needs to go are those dogmatic religions that are pervasive in our lives and governments, of which doctrine continues to maintain righteous and elitists positions. I think the Don't Ask--Don't Tell policy would work great with religion...
