Georgia State GOP chair: McCain 'kind of like Jesus'

State GOP chair: McCain 'kind of like Jesus' | ajc.com

Quote:
Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.
I do not follow any organized religion and am more agnostic than atheist. Having said that nobody who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ who is not completely brain dead would compare any politician to Jesus. Quite a revealing peek into conservative psychology.

Now maybe it's just me, but Jesus comparisons would make myself a wee nervous. After all the man got crucified by the powers that be.

I thought he meant that they were both born over 2000 years ago.

It would be the understatement of the year to say that conservative Christian leaders suffer from a God complex. Keep in mind that these are the same people McCain called agents of intolerance when he ran in the GOP primary in 2000. The situational ethics of both McCain and the Bible thumpers have become pathetically apparent. In a related story, "Jesus Camp" airs tonight on the Biography Channel. Now that should also prove to be quite a peek into conservative psychology aka delusional religious fanaticism.

So, McCain is Jesus and the government is God. I've often referred to the Republican Party as a state cult, but rarely are they so blunt about it.

You'd think talk like this would be offensive to genuine Christians.

I bring this up all the time, but having holes in your feet and hands has GOT to be a drawback when you're trying to do just about anything. You can't where flip-flops and simple things like taking your change from the grocery clerk must really be embarrasing.

It doesn't bother me a bit because their version of Jesus doesn't mesh with mine. To me Jesus is loving, caring and kind, while also being a revolutionary. He stood up for His belief and was a voice against the 'powers that be'.

To them, people like Sue Everhart, Jesus is nothing more than a political tool.

If He exists, He knows what's what.
