Technically, the quotation marks didn't belong there, as he wasn't quoting anyone, so the mistake is understandable.

I think they do go there....he was quoting himself...

It doesn't seem like it would have been right if they weren't there either....

or am I wrong...?

An author doesn't need to quote himself unless he's quoting something he wrote previously, because otherwise it's implicit that the words are the author's. I think he was primarily using the quotes to set that sentence aside, giving it a different voice, but quotes imply something else in journalistic writing (which is effectively what blogging is). He probably would have been better off using italics.

Yeah...he was using them to add emphasis....which means as you said that he should have used italics...

EDIT: I just think that grammer gets a little weird once you start getting into writing styles such as his...and the use of quotation marks, while it is wrong to use them to add emphasis, it somewhow seems more fitting when you are trying to move the reader in the manner he is....

I never thought I would compare GWB favorably to anyone, but at least he had Rove doing his dirty work for him. This woman will do anything to appeal to her only remaining demographic, uneducated, toothless white people.

(And if her supporters here have teeth, I won't

Hillary said in October that the Michigan primary
vote wouldn't count, you belong to that lowest

It may not be right, but I often put quotes in italics so it will be
clear that I didn't write them.

I think you've missed it. I read it as a mythic quote. for example. I am very anti -"establishment". An editorail quotation. Those words have been spoken, somewhere, sometime. That is why there is no credit given to the quote. IMHO.

Perhaps, but he placed it after, "Clinton's final appeal for the Democratic nomination is this:", which clearly, to some, read as an attribution. The meaning of the quotes was unclear and ambiguous, which is a grammatical problem.

Sorry, for derailing the thread, but I doubt HarperLee was the only one to make that mistake.

He should run for President. He knows Trainspotting, and anybody who's watched/read Trainspotting can't be bad.
