Preacher wars

it's hilarious, Obama and McCain's woes from these religious meddlers.

If the preachers stayed out of politics,
the politicians wouldn't glom onto them, and we'd all be better off.

Poliics and religion just don' mix.

Exactly, just like church and state don't mix. Here we have a case of equalization in preacher-gates, neither can directly use this against their each other. It won't stop the 527's against Wright but McCain certainly can't say anything.

I hope this will make politicians a bit less eager to suck up to the clergy. I have serious doubts about the religious convictions of both McCain and Obama. They pandered to religion and it didn't pay off as they'd hoped.

The first candidate to declare the utter irrelevance of religion and faith in a thinking person's character and judgement will have my unwavering support no matter what political party.

I've gone into this elsewhere, but I believe that Obama's membership in the church is itself a political move. He found Christianity when he decided to pursue a career in public service. I just don't believe that's a coincidence. It's a practical move on his part; there is a de facto ban against non-Christians holding the US Presidency. He was playing the game. I understand why, but in this case, it didn't exactly pay off. There are still a bunch of xenophobic morons who believe he's a Muslim, and those who believe he's Christian think he's a clone of Jeremiah Wright.

Well thank God. We wouldn't want a real Christian in the O-Office.

lol.............. The right answer......... The exactly what I have believed as well. Since hearing the story of how he came to the church.....

I see nothing wrong or immoral about it..... I doubt if even 1% of Christians have some "Damascus road" experience bringing them to the church......

Religion and faith are far from irrelevant.

The people who use religion and faith to do harm, though, is another story.

Let me clarify just a bit.

I have faith, and I do believe in God.

The problem isn't with believing.

The problem arises when people use faith and religion as a political tool.

Bush says he's a Christian, but what if any of his actions have been Christ-like?

When politicians, or anyone for that matter, use religion to get themselves into office or to start a war, well, right then and there I have my doubts about them.
