Stop Yelling at Hillary to Stand Down ...
Stop Yelling at Hillary to Stand Down and Start Yelling at the
Superdelegates to Stand Up Arianna Huffington, May 22, 2008 The dust refuses to settle on the Democratic race. Hillary Clinton wants to cloud the issue with talk of Zimbabwe, Gore 2000, slavery, the civil rights movement, and fuzzy-math-derived popular vote totals. The media steadfastly refuse to clear things up by sticking to the facts, preferring to keep the horse race going. So let's see if we can put the focus on those with the power to bring to an end this political equivalent of a 50s horror movie (The Campaign That Just Won't Die!): the superdelegates. There are currently 213 uncommitted superdelegates (not counting Michigan and Florida). What are they waiting for? I understand there are still three more primaries to go. But there is nothing that is going to happen in Puerto Rico or South Dakota or Montana that is going to convince Hillary Clinton to leave the race. Her argument isn't about pledged delegates, which is what is at stake in these remaining primaries. Her argument is about Florida and Michigan and convincing the superdelegates to overturn the pledged delegate majority Obama has won. And there is also no reason for the superdelegates to wait until the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting on May 31st. Not even the Clinton camp is delusional enough to think it is going to walk away from the meeting with enough additional pledged delegates from Michigan and Florida to overtake Obama. So it's time for the uncommitted superdelegates to stop their dithering, come out of hiding, hop off the fence, endorse Obama and officially bring this nominating process to an end. The Democratic leadership -- starting with Pelosi, Reid, and Dean -- should begin working behind the scenes to get all uncommitted supers to immediately commit. Let Puerto Rico, South Dakota, and Montana have their say, but start bringing the curtain down now. And let's not just wait for the party leaders to put pressure on the superdelegates. Let's start putting pressure ourselves. Below you will find a list of all the uncommitted superdelegates. And this link will lead you to profiles of them. Please call or email the elected officials and track down the DNC members who live in your state and let them know that you want them to stand up and be counted. Now. Hillary Clinton has more than earned the right to stay in the race until the bitter end. So it's up to the superdelegates to accelerate the bitter end. I have been avid about not saying Hillary should step down and I will remain that way until May 31st, that's only fair. After that you can rest assured that I will call for it and so will everyone else, up to this point it's been a good race but her dragging this out to the convention kicking and screaming will not get her a win and could do irreputable damage to the party.

lying. She is doing nothing to foster a gracious withdrawal and deliver her supporters to Obama. This week, alone, she is playing the victim/martyr with the Sexism Whine -- you know her campaign sent Geraldine Ferraro out as the messenger to the Today show Monday morning -- and her growing list of lies about the Michigan and Florida primaries. Harold Ickes and Terry McAuliffe have both had to lie about the mechanics of the DNC sanctions against MI and FL. She is not going to make a gracious speech on June 3 and say that it was a good fight, but that Obama won. She wants her supporters to see her as a victim and a martyr -- so that she can run in 2012 with a 60 or higher Negatives rating.

i think the "stop yelling at hillary to stand down!" part was pretty clear!
and agree with the "start yelling at the super delegates to stand up!" part, whole heartedly! if they'd have had some kind of a back bone, she would have been forced to withdraw WHEN IT WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE! YELLING AT THEM WOULD STILL BE A GOOD THING AT THIS POINT OF THE GAME! NOT BECAUSE SHE'D DROP OUT AT THIS POINT - BUT JUST BECAUSE IT WOULD SEND THE CLEAR MESSAGE THAT SHE BETTER NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING TO TAKE THIS TO THE CONVENTION! hillary's had her fun, and fucked the dems up royally... anyone who trusts her to drop out june 3rd, or to not attempt to FORCE her way onto the ticket as VP, is extremely naive!

or Clinton (which I find troubling), has been saying for at least ten days that the Obama campaign better wake up and realize that Hillary plans to take this to Denver. Shocking, isn't it? To think that Hillary might try to provide incentives? Anyone who doesn't believe backroom deals grease the wheels are the ones who are naive. |

I have to agree with Guess here. Hillary is actually planning to take this to the convention (unless her backroom deal to have Obama have an "unfortunate happening" like so many who have associated themselves with the Clinton's have comes through).
The superdelegates AND THE UNCOMMITTED delegates (does anyone know a total on those?) AND the pledged delegates (on the 2nd or 3rd vote) can change their minds at the convention. THUS by Hillary's logic---she has not lost until the votes are cast at the convention. I believe in 1960 they went to over a hundred ballots before a nominee was chosen (could have been '68). For those who have called Hillary gracious----It is time to shut the fuck up and admit that you were wrong! For those who have claimed that Hillary cared, would care, or has ever cared about the Democratic party----It is time to shut the fuck up and admit that you were wrong! For those who have talked bullshit about Hillary wanting to be VP----It is time to shut the fuck up and admit that you forgot your meds that day! For those who have whined about people being kind to Hillary supporters------It is time to shut the fuck up and go buy a clue! For those who think that Hillary supporters are democrats----it is time to get a shrink! You can keep talking back to the voices you've been hearing until then! You don't get a man to marry himself to you by lying. You don't enhance the party by placing yourself above it's rules---nor by working diligently to convince your supporters that if you lose a race (that you had EVERY SINGLE ADVANTAGE going into) that someone CHEATED you out of a win. You don't enhance the party by claiming that the party is enforcing it's rules in an effort to disenfranchise it voters. You don't enhance the party by insisting that it's voters don't count in 31 states. This woman is attacking the party she is working as hard as she can to do the political bidding of those in her prayer group! Last edited by RK77; 05-22-2008 at 05:28 PM. |
