I know exactly what you mean about officers and pilots. But if I use myself as an example, I didn't have the GI Bill at all. Ford got rid of it in favor of VEAP, and Carter retained that policy. I got royally fucked, but I realized it was a volunteer service and I made the only deal I had when I joined. Did I go to war? No. I was lucky, but I still volunteered for my country. A deals a deal and you make it on the way in.

And for the crap I hear about supporting the troops, the only support people in my age group had was our own kind of support as so many civilians were just as likely to want to kick your ass as spit on you.

You may not like what he said, and that is perfectly alright. But I think it is wrong to say he doesn't support veterans. In his mind he supports them but not at the expense of depleting the resources. He has a valid point, whether we agree with it or not.

He IS under the same heat as Obama. The press hounds them both. I agree completely that McCain fucked this up, and that this is an indication of whether or not he can take the heat. These are all indications of how sharp he is or isn't.

Trust me, I'm voting "isn't."
