Thumbs down McCain Calls Mosul "Quiet" On Same Day As 3 Suicide Attacks

McCain Declares Mosul "Quiet" On Same Day As Three Suicide Attacks (Video)

May 29 Nico Pitney Huffington Post

Quote:
Speaking about Iraq at a townhall event on Thursday evening in Greensdale, Wisconsin, Sen. John McCain declared, "I can tell you that it is succeeding. I can look you in the eye and tell you it's succeeding. We have drawn down to pre-surge levels. Basra, Mosul and now Sadr city are quiet and it's long and it's hard and it's tough and there will be setbacks..." (Video is below.)

McCain was wrong on two points. First, U.S. forces have not returned to pre-surge levels. Before the surge, there were 130,000 troops in Iraq; even if the scheduled troop reductions are carried out as planned, there will still be 140,000 troops in Iraq in August.

Moreover, McCain's claim that Mosul is "quiet" was disproved earlier today in grim fashion. Three suicide bombings -- two in Mosul and another in a surrounding town -- left 30 Iraqis dead and more than two dozen injured, according to press reports.

Clearly, McCain's various congressional trips to Iraq haven't made him infallible on the issue.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Has someone already completed research on the full pathology behind suicide-bombers?

He's only following in George's footsteps. Dubya set a "standard", that is 'Say anything, the uninformed voter will never know the difference.'

How could any American NOT be tired of these lies?

Appropos of nothing, the town is called Greendale, I know because I went there to buy a t-shirt at the H.S. on my way to Chicago to see Neil Young doing his 'Greendale' show.....

So....anyway....

Did anyone see that McCain released a 1200 page medical report and gave reporters 3 hours to read it?

You will know on November 4, 2008.

You should write the author at Huffington post. They are pretty receptive to comments. I am not speaking of the comments section but actually sending him an email.

Yes, had seen that about the medical reports.

Eh, I'll let the 300 or so residents of Greendale worry about it

You couldn't leave the room the report was in(except for bathroom breaks)

No phones or recording devices.

Why isn't that a story? They certainly were doing everything they could to minimize information about his health.

Three hours then snatched it back. Funny.
On the other hand, John Stewart had Obama's medical report on the show last night, he waved it around, it was one single page. If I were the kind to use emoticons there'd be one rolling on the floor laughing right here X

Sure it's a a story.

Go ahead and post it if you have details.

I found this story a real shocker since it clearly shows that McCain wishes to continue the deception of this admin re: Iraq.

At this point, I am not sure that with McCain it is a calculated deception. I honestly think he is just utterly clueless. Maybe he doesn't read the papers either -- suggesting that Obama accompany him to Iraq so he (McCain) could show Obama how safe it is there would indicate either 1) that his short-term memory should be a serious consideration, or, 2) that he is oblivious to the perception of the fairly recent trip where he made a fool of himself by saying how safe he was in Baghdad.

CNN: Military Sources Respond To McCain’s Escalation Remark With ‘Laughter Down The Line’

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told radio host Bill Bennett that President Bush’s escalation is working. “There are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today,” he said. Today, when CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked McCain why Americans still aren’t able to safely leave the Green Zone in Iraq, the senator replied that Blitzer was giving three-month-old talking points:

SENATOR McCAIN: General Petraeus goes out there almost every day in an unarmed humvee. I think you oughta catch up. You are giving the old line of three months ago. I understand it. We certainly don’t get it through the filter of some of the media.

But according to CNN reporter Michael Ware, who has been in Iraq for four years, McCain is “way off base.” He stated, “To suggest that there’s any neighborhood in this city where an American can walk freely is beyond ludicrous. I’d love Sen. McCain to tell me where that neighborhood is and he and I can go for a stroll.”

Ware also rebutted McCain’s assertion that Petaeus travels in an unarmed humvee: “n the hour since Sen. McCain’s said this, I’ve spoken to military sources and there was laughter down the line. I mean, certainly the general travels in a humvee. There’s multiple humvees around it, heavily armed.”

Sadly, I think he is just an old guy who wants to be president. Very little he has ever said about Iraq has been true.
