Comics what I was referring to was Grahams saying that the wickedness of the United States is so great that he may let something happen.
"There comes a time when God can stand wickedness and sin no more. That is what Grahams message is about. That is ALSO what Wright's message was about---on both occassions. The 911 message (after the event that Graham has described) was an attempt to help people understand HOW the anger and hate and fear they were feeling would have to be dealt with. I don't know if you read or heard the entire sermon but---those who did appreciated that he was saying that you had to contain the tempation to hate or act on the anger. The other sermon is likewise saying that America has done wicked things (which he lists). He says that we have to turn our faith to God, To follow God's teaching not that of a nation. That we have to condemn a nation when it fails to live up to God's expectations. "God damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and she is supreme!"BOTH are telling you that we MUST turn back to God! BOTH are saying that America has done wicked things. THAT was my point. YET---and you tell me if you think I am wrong---- I believe that when racists hear a white man say American is wicked-- they accept it as an observation that is true. When they hear a black man criticize the country they act as though a) blacks are NOT americans and have no right to criticize the nation and b) the identification of America's actions is a criticism somehow of Whites. Wright began this part of the sermon with a clear and FULL illustration of the FACT that he was talking about ALL governments: "Where governments lie, God does not lie. Where governments change. God does not change. And I'm through now, but let me leave you with one more thing. So he was CLEARLY explaining the SAME point as Graham----GOD before Government! |
