Bama turns his back on church

Trying to save face?

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Barack Obama says he's not denouncing the Chicago church he has belonged to for some 20 years.

The Illinois senator say he has resigned from the Trinity United Church of Christ after inflammatory remarks by his longtime pastor the Reverend Jeremiah Wright and more recent fiery remarks from a visiting priest incited a political furor.

Obama says it's not a decision he took lightly, and one he makes with "some sadness." The Democrat says he is "not interested" in people who want him to denounce the church. And he says Trinity has suffered under the scrutiny his campaign has attracted.

Obama said he and his wife have been discussing the issue since Wright's appearance at the National Press Club in Washington last month. He says he expects he will find a new place of worship.

Pretty much any Tom, Dick or Harry from that church says anything in any way shape or form then Obama is held accountable. Accountable for their words, not his own no less lol. Had he not resigned then he would have to answer for every one of these people all the time and there's no way to do that and campaign at the same time.

He's needed to do this for a while, the media is on that church like a fly on shit and distancing himself is the only way to really get all of that off his back.

He needed to find a new place of worship this January anyway. Someplace a little closer to The White House.

The same can be said for McCan needing to distance himself from Dumbya. Regardless of the "press" twenty years is two decades and I'm uncertain as to the implications that is going to have. Headlines from the GOP beginning later today will be of the likes:

Bama flip-flops

Bama's loyalty in question after leaving church

Bama hates God

Quite possibly this has been the GOP plan all along and now he just gave them exactly what they were hoping for.

The difference is that Obama doesn't "need" the church in the same way that McCain needs Bush. In any case this is just another one of your hit pieces, arguing with you will be like telling a three year old they can't have ice cream and expecting a rational response.

I don't see where the argument is but in any case that's your main problem; i.e. looking to argue. I don't understand why you have to have an argument. And your talking about immature irrational hypotheticals.

They can try that if they want, but Obama will just respond in the direct rebuttal approach that he grasps so eloquently.

Besides, the GOP is too busy tarring and feathering McClellan at the moment.

Do you honestly think it would have mattered either way? If he had stayed with his church the GOP would have howled with outrage as they played a thousand 6-second clips of Trinity Church Preachers saying something Obama needs to denounce and apologize for... now that he left those same people will howl with outrage about him for not being loyal and throwing his own church under the bus.

I think it sucks for him to have to do that.

To those it wouldn't matter to in the first place it has no bearing/merit. However those orchestrating this are getting what they want, so it matters to them. THen I think there will be all types of Religious nutbags that this will matter to. I personal think Religion should be left out of politics but each candidate seems to do that one to themselves by wearing their Religion on their sleeves.

Obama is going to get critisized for staying with the church after the Rev Wright spew, and hes going to get critisized for denouncing the church

So hes damned if he stays, and damned if he leaves..Is there a third choice?..Is there a "right thing to do" way out of this to satisfy his critics?
