"I have spent most of my lifetime voting for Republican candidates, but Barack Obama has inspired me to support his candidacy for President of the United States.

As someone who knows a few things about overcoming great odds and running a strong race, I am confident that Barack Obama has what it takes to go the distance as president and deliver on the promise of much-needed change that his campaign holds.

"For too long, our government has failed to keep its promises to create an education system that truly leaves no child behind and failed to guarantee children the basic necessity of health care. These failures are disgraceful, but they’ve been devastating in Native communities.



"It’s going to take a leader who can unite Republicans, Democrats and Independents – from the grassroots to the halls of Congress – to pass universal health care, strengthen our schools and expand economic opportunity. Under his leadership, we will build a more prosperous and secure future for our communities, and all South Dakotans.

"I also believe that Senator Obama’s background makes him uniquely positioned to relate to communities like ours, take our concerns seriously and follow through on his word.

"Barack Obama is the right choice for Indian Country and all of South Dakota."

After those comments about putting Obama's face on Mt. Rushmore that does impress me. Though why any American Indian votes republican, much less runs as one, completely baffles me.

Then again, Obama is the first candidate to ever mention American Indians without negative connotation.
