Sorry Ref but save your indignation for something else. There were some people in NoLa that deserved special attention considering the circumstances but I can tell you that 3/4 of the people that were stuck in that situation were there becuase of their own ignorance and ineptitude in lacking the good graces to take seriously all the advanced warnings of the brutal storm that was headed their way. It doesn't take much to stock up on some bottled water and food when you know that there may be trouble headed your way. If they really cared for themselves and their families then the situation wouldn't have been as difficult as it turned out to be.

And this in no way excuses FEMA response but in any hurricane situation you need to have at least three days worth of supplies available before you can expect any kind of governmental help.
And if you are living in a low lying area it is imperative that you evacuate. It is only for your own safety.

They had plenty of time to prepare, a hurricane is not like a tornadoe, sometimes you have weeks to track one before it makes landfall.
