Greek-American Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Towson) From Maryland Endorses Obama
![]() Rep. John Sarbanes June 3, 2008 - 11:00pm Rep. John Sarbanes endorses Obama By Editor Upon the closing of polls in South Dakota, Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Towson) endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination tonight. Sarbanes announced his support along with 25 other superdelegates -- the only Marylander to do so -- solidifying Obama's hold on the delegates needed to nominate at the August Democratic National Committee Convention. "Now that the votes have been cast and the primary season has come to its close," Sarbanes said in a statement, "I am pleased to play a part in ratifying the decision of the voters in my district and across the country." "Moving forward, the importance of unifying the party behind one candidate is vital and Democrats in the Third District, the State of Maryland, and the nation are quickly turning their focus to electing Senator Obama as our next President." Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton have both claimed 11 Maryland DNC superdelegates, with 8 left undeclared. Link

Another Greek-American U.S. Rep. Zack Space Endorses Obama For President!
![]() U.S. Rep. Zack Space Space endorses Obama Staff Reports • June 5, 2008 U.S. Rep. Zack Space joined a number of high-ranking Democrats today in endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. The first-term congressman from Dover is also a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention in August. He has been silent for months on his preference between Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. "This has been an extraordinary campaign between two very extraordinary candidates, and I congratulate Senator Clinton on her hard-fought campaign," Space said in a prepared statement. "There have been small differences of opinion between Senator Clinton and Senator Obama, but at every turn, their ongoing debates have only made it abundantly clear how the Democratic Party's priorities and values make us much better equipped to address the problems that are plaguing Ohio's working families." Space joined Gov. Ted Strickland -- one of Clinton's biggest backers -- U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and Ohio Democratic Party chairman Chris Redfern in endorsing Obama today. In the March primary, Clinton handily won the 18th Congressional District that Space represents. Link

You are probably right however U.S Rep. John Sarbanes endorsement is a big deal. His father Paul Sarbanes was a U.S senator from Maryland for many years but has retired and is highly respected in the Greek-American community. Many Greek-Americans will be probably more willing to support Obama after this endorsement.
