To attack Iran, doesn't Bush need authorization from congress? It is obviously a dumb political stunt. It will probably backfire... the people who want Iran to be attacked will vote Obama when they would normally vote Republican.

No. "Impeachment Is Off the Table" Pelosi made sure that he would not need it.

Kick Pelosi out of Congress for selling out America!

He's already gotten it, Jonesy.

The Kyl-Lieberman act passed last year:
The Nation Sept 25 2007

Quote:
...
And now Senators Jon Kyl and Joe Lieberman, who's already advocated attacking the country, are introducing a sense of the Senate resolution, possibly up for a vote today, that accuses Iran of fighting "a proxy war against the Iraqi state and coalition forces in Iraq." [SEE UPDATE AT END]

... the resolution dubs Iran's largest military branch, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, "a foreign terrorist organization."

It's clear where this resolution is going. The Council for a Livable World, one of the more astute peace groups in Washington, says it "could wind up being another in a long line of blank checks provided to the Executive Branch in the mold of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the authorization to use force in Iraq."
...

Moreover, the case for the next war is as shaky as the last one. "The Kyl-Lieberman amendment is a resolution based almost entirely on false premises," the Council states. "The resolution only quotes questionable and unsubstantiated assertions provided by the US military about Iranian involvement in Iraq."

The Council warns that actions like these from the US Senate, while still only symbolic, could lead to serious blowback of the worst kind. "Provocative measures such as the Kyl-Lieberman amendment can lead to a tit-for-tat escalation resulting in military confrontation between the US and Iran. There are no good military options for solving our disagreements with Iran. Military action would only result in disastrous and unintended consequences for U.S. and Israeli interests. If we have learned nothing else from Iraq, it is that there are limitations to the use of military force."
...

UPDATE: A revised resolution, which deleted the sections referenced above about combating, containing and rolling back Iran's influence inside Iraq and using all instruments of US power to do so
(I deleted these cited sections from the paste-j),
passed the Senate this afternoon by a vote of 72-22. Harry Reid, Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer voted aye. Of the '08 Dems, so did Hillary Clinton. Chris Dodd and Joe Biden voted no. Barack Obama missed the vote.

He is Commander in Chief. The title speaks for itself.

Spineless Congress would surrender to the highest bidder and worst thug.

Bush will get Israel to do the necessary deed.

What is the deal with these false-flag things anyway? Do we have no defense against them? We have to constantly worry about the government perpetrating these crimes? How could we prove it was the government, even if one did happen?

Sure is a lot of crap on the forums today. Must be getting closer to the election. Republicans pulling out every pathetic stupid trick imaginable. Democrats falling for every pathetic stupid trick Republicans pull out.

If Obama wants real change, he should fix the government. How did it get so fucked up anyway? I mean, I know people are morons, but can the government get so broken on stupidity alone?

Two words: Kyl-Lieberman.

Charlie Black, McCain's Chief Advisor, has also said that another attack on our soil would create a "big advantage" for McCain. (I believe he had to apologize, but make no mistake -- another 9/11
is about the only thing that would ensure a McCain victory.)

These scenarios make me sick.

Our military is depleted. We have no business bombing Iran.

The MSM is now covering Iraq 2 minutes a day. No one in this "God fearing country" cares that hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis have died, and hundreds of thousands more are refugees because of Bush & Company's immoral war.

Maybe it will take a draft to put an end to this obscene madness.

Americans had their chance to restore sanity in the arena of foreign policy by electing Ron Paul. They blew it. And they let the corporate media tell them who to vote for again. Elect Obama or McCain and foreign policy won't change, especially if Bush or Israel attack Iran. Bush has already promised Israel our support if they do the attack.
