How many bozos who had never heard of The New Yorker will have this cover framed and hung next to the pictures of Jesus and Elvis Presley in their double-wide trailers?

For what it is worth, here is link to an interview with editor of The New Yorker:

David Remnick On That New Yorker Cover: It's Satire, Meant To Target "Distortions And Misconceptions And Prejudices" About Obama

It sounds trite, but I have to say it: with friends like these, Obama really doesn't need enemies. This cover may rank right up there with the picture of Dukasis on the tank or Kerry wind-surfing --
the difference being that Dukasis really was on the tank and Kerry really was wind surfing.
Those images were of the men themselves doing things that made them look bad to undecided voters....This cover was meant as a parody of the conservative spin put onto both these two people. While it will piss of a lot of Obama supporters...it is not the Dukakis sitting in a tank image that will destroy Obama.

Damn...it's like people are waiting for the other shoe to fall. Have some faith guys.

"Faith" in voters is a quality that has been sorely damaged since about
thirty years ago, with good reason.

While I agree that it's not comperable to a photo, the image itself of Obama or Black people in general as foreign and threatening is racist on its face. This is the type of thing that passed as satire in the 19th century with the Thomas Nast cartoons that depicted the Irish as apes and Catholic bishops as ravenous crocodiles. The image of Obama as a Muslim and a "terrorist" is one of bigotry toward Muslims and Blacks, no better than the "coon" imagery of the old minstrel shows and early animation of Blacks as sub human in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

There's many more Obama "sore winners" then Clinton sore losers on this site.

Also WHICH Hillary supporter said that Obama was lionized by the media? I don't recall myself, Cosmic, Winthrop or Terry saying any such thing.

Also WHY is it necessary to take a swipe at Hillary and her supporters on every thread and then proclaim what sore-losers we supposedly are.

You would not have shown up here if you weren't, would you?

And just for the record, I started this thread after reading a long list of how Obama's Democrats only won by "playing the race card." This despite the fact that Hillary's campaign repeatedly made an issue out of his ethnicity by portraying her as the champion of "hard working, white America", her words not mine.

I agree with the premise of the thread. There is no bias for Barack. I just don't see why you couldn't of said that without the gratuitous slap at Hillary. And if you're going to make a gratuitous slap at Hillary can we kindly dispense with the Hillary sore losers and the Hillary camp won't let go meme?

I myself would happily never mention hillary again if you guys would simply stop disparaging her and her former supporters every other post.

I understand now. I assumed (and please don't break down the word, i'm not going to stop using it simply because it has ass in it) that you were referring to supporters on this site and not in the whole wild world out there. You must admit it's an easy mistake to make when you're telling people not to do something, you assume it's the people on the site you're addressing. Not the world at large.

Anyway, sorry about the misunderstanding.

For the record, I have stated since the beginning I am a supporter
of the Democratic nominee, whomever that may be. If Ms. Clinton,
fine, if Mr. Obama, fine.
I fought with some ObamaOnly supporters over character assassination
of other board participants, inaccurate interpretations of some
statements and obsessions over Clinton paranoia.
These discussions did not make me anti-Obama, only pro-fairness.

Ap's words...not hers. She just repeated them.

If this was reversed and this was Hillary Clinton you can be sure I would be outraged.....then I would remember this is a cartoon and an expression of freedom of speech. Something I myself often do...even won an award for a political cartoon. Let's just not look at this as the Muslim countries did with the cartoon of Mohamed with a bomb in his turbin.

There are many problems with the excuse given by the New Yorker, but at the end of the day it is nothing more than a cartoon. How much attention is drawn to it will determine whether or not it has any real effect on the election....either way.
