Media Bias in Favor of Obama? Bullshit

Magazine's 'satirical' cover stirs controversy - Barack Obama News - MSNBC.com Now will all you Hillary Clinton sore losers stop beating this dead horse about Obama being excessively lionized by the media?

The problem here is one of context. The New Yorker is not known as a satirical
magazine, ala "Mad" magazine or the National Lampoon. It is funny and absurd
when John Stewart asks Mr. Obama, "Do you have a secret plan to enslave
the white race", because Mr. Stewart's whole raison d'etre is humor and satire.
The New Yorker's covers have some degree of humor at times, but are rarely
read as biting political satire.
That said, most New Yorker readers are, I suspect, sophisticated enough not to
view this image as a serious portrayal of Mr. Obama's beliefs. I look forward
to equal time depicting an image of Mr. McCain as a doddering, confused old
fool wearing his now ill-fitting military uniform and turning red at the mention
of Viagra.
Except that would be an accurate reflection of him...

Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. I suspect this was done to sell lots of coppies but I imagine there will be no apology or retraction. Had they done anything like this to McLame the hue and cry from CNN and Fixed Noise would have been deafening.

Apparently in the rarefied air of The New Yorker offices, this was biting political satire. Talk about your dunderheaded, Ivy League educated, Eastern elitists -- Jeez, Louise! Howard Fineman
overuses the term "too cute by half", but this is too cute by half.

How many bozos who had never heard of The New Yorker will have this cover framed and hung next to the pictures of Jesus and Elvis Presley in their double-wide trailers?

For what it is worth, here is link to an interview with editor of The New Yorker:

David Remnick On That New Yorker Cover: It's Satire, Meant To Target "Distortions And Misconceptions And Prejudices" About Obama

It sounds trite, but I have to say it: with friends like these, Obama really doesn't need enemies. This cover may rank right up there with the picture of Dukasis on the tank or Kerry wind-surfing --
the difference being that Dukasis really was on the tank and Kerry really was wind surfing.

I agree, but the fact that it's a cartoon and not a real photograph should mitigate some of the damage. I think it sucks because what you'll get from those assholes at CNN and Fox will probably be a lot of subdued chuckles and bemusement. I guesse "satire" has become a camouflage for racist humor. I'd expect this type of crap from a College Republican rag, but the New Yorker? I suppose Muddy and Bird Brain are probably creaming themselves over this.
