Jeff...I've had the same type of conversation, and I always get them to open their eyes by explaining....


I'm not crazy about the way many programs are being exploited either, but...

Given the choice of spending billions in Iraq, or spending that money feeding/housing the poor at home, I choose to fund the social programs.

I said, "OK, ...but I dont think someone will send my kid to be shot at in an Arab country because of a "new social program."

(crickets)

I realized at this point, that him being a foxnews junkie and (I imagine) a Rush listener, we should just agree to disagree. And the ferver behind his response encouraged a change in conversational topic.

This is certainly distressing to me, as I know this person has some intelligence, but has simply made up his mind. The neo-cons have waged a war of dis-information, and unfortunately many Americans think that if someone on TV with nice hair and a white smile says it, it must be true.

Sometimes lies stick. If you hear them over, and over, and over..it will eventually become truth even in the mind of an otherwise intelligent person.

..now that you bring it up...this same person acquired the need to tell everyone who will listen about his "faith", around the same time he stopped his decades long pot habit. Hate to say it, but I liked him better before. (At least he didnt feel the need to make everyone around him a pot-head.)

I still consider him a close friend, but religion and politics are off-limits.
