you keep conflating the PUMAS with the average Hillary supporters.

The PUMAS are indeed a lost cause.
But there are millions of her supporters who needed that extra exortation to get off the sidelines and go vote.

Those who the ppl she got tonight - not the " dead enders"
But those who were so emotionally invested in Hillary, that they
were dispirited, and lethargic in their support for the Dem. values.

Those are the ones she got tonight.

Not the diehards. The ones who were deflated.
she pumped them up.

Well I would love to see something backing that up. But my guess is that the 30% that won't support Obama are the PUMA's

I think it was 20 % that would vote for Mccain ( of Hillary supporters)

27% that will just not vote Obama.

But that was pre-speech.

we're gonna have to wait a bit for the next polls to see the new numbers.

See if the emotions can be overcome by the case she laid out tonight to transfer the alligence to Obama.

rememebr I said to " cool it" on the pre-speech bashing, to let it " play out in real time"?.

Hillary did everything humanly possible tonight for unity

It's a process. the steps for her supporters were laid out for them to follow to Obama.
Not everyone will follow - but there will be quite a few that will take that walk.

wait. be patient. the tao is manifest.

Here's hoping but I'm still skeptical.

My only beef with her speech is that she did not attack the PUMA's. She should have called them out. She should have shamed them.

In order for her to help Obama she has to admit that she is a scum sucking lying bitch!

She's not going to do that so we should just get over it and move on to work to win the election.
For her to help she would have to say this will be her lat term in the senate and that she's retiring from any and all public offices never to manifest again.

In order to truly address the PUMA's, she would have to have spent at least another hour on the podium. And speak some very ugly truths. She broached the issue of voting for what you purport to believe in, it wasn't everything you could hope for, but she plainly stated she wants her supporters to vote for Obama.

Anyone who supported her, who doesn't support her stated wishes at this point, can't claim loyalty to her anymore. Not rationally, anyway.

Harpers comparison of PUMA's to John Irving's 'Ellen James Society' remains the best analogy for them, I've seen thus far. They WILL not respect the words of their deity. Their motivations are now and forever suspect, and ultimately, they don't matter.

Hopefully, last night will prove to be their first step, on the road to their irrelevancy. They need to melt into obscurity, in our consciousness, so we can attend to the business at hand.

Earlier in the day she had addressed a PUMA group and not mentioned Barack Obama's name.

I will try to be fair and say that I am not sure how she could have directly spoken to or about the PUMAs.

That being said, I wish she had rejected, renounced, and repudiated McCain's use of her sound bites in his campaign ads.

I also think she should have addressed what three McCain Supreme Court appointments would do to this country -- and to women's rights.

Obama's big problem right now is scurrilous ads being run in key states that make it sound like Obama and Bill Ayers are close personal friends. The Clinton campaign is responsible for generating the unfair Ayers slur.

This is all the more reason why her speech last night was nothing more than Hillary's self absorbed bullshit. It wasn't great. Wasn't even good. It was a load of shit. And the masses have accepted every shovel full. This is why the so-called "democatic" party is so easily toppled election after election.

maybe it's time to face the reality that puma's, etc., aren't - and never - were democrats. and that very few of them were even independents.

the pumas, etc, are probably nothing more than republicans trying to fuck up the democrats - and doing an admirable job of it.

It was just one speech.
The theme was "support obama -not me now".

she'll be doing campaigning about the specific issues.
