Sea Lions in Sacramento River

Three Sea Lions Spotted Swimming Near Sacramento

Mammals Seen In Waters Near Confluence

POSTED: 3:07 pm PST November 16, 2007
UPDATED: 3:40 pm PST November 16, 2007

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Three sea lions were spotted swimming in river waters on Friday.
Rudy Valdez, who had been out fishing since 7 a.m. on Friday, said he saw the sea lions near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers.

"They're hungry. Just like us, we get hungry. They're going to eat," Valdez said.
Several people witnessed the sea lions swimming back and forth around boats in the river.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, seals and sea lions are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

lol.............. They come up all the time now........... For several years they have followed up the salmon run which was real weak again......... On the American river they have a festival & the count this year was 20,000.. IN 2003 it was 124,000 fish @ that same time of year................

Most fisherman hate them as they will steal your salmon right off the line......

We used to see them when we were fishing on the river. I got into a battle with one over a huge Salmon hooked on my line. Guess who won? Not me! lol. I was just worried about the hook hurting the seal.

That is odd, especially with the fish hatchery.

I wish I could still river fish. I can set a hook without ripping the fishes lips like you wouldn't believe! I miss fishing so much! I had this one fish on and it worked me up and down the river until I saw a bear. Human off pole! lol. I had to replace my gear, but better than the bear coming after me.

You worked with gorillas and you're afraid of a bear? GM, I'm disappointed. Black bears are pussies.

Better there than here. Nothing quite like being lulled to sleep by a few hundred barking sea lions every night.
