I would rather be conned with "global warming", "space program" and "peace on earth" than be conned with a "war".

All I know is this....I've seen the results of climate change first-hand, via the beetle infestation in my states forests. The same infestation that had (until recent years) been held in check by deep freezes in wintertime.
No more long deep freezes = more beetles = wave after wave after wave of dead centuries old pine trees. So,...I would think it stands to reason that we will also feel the impact of the loss of millions of acres of oxygen generating forest - not to mention the fact that its now a tinder box up there. Sorry, but climate change looks real from where I'm standin.

Fact: The earths temperature is increasing
Highly Likely: Humans are contributing at some degree Pure Speculation: The sensationalist stories about it's possible consequences. It's as though the environmental movement spouts emotional overwrought melodrama to generate awareness. They need a cause to terrify people with in order to create a rallying cry. I guess it's a pretty noble agenda. I mean, i can understand why they do it. I just remain unconvinced that a raise of a few degrees over a hundred years will create armaggedon. The "undispued" science is that it is happening. But the science surrounding "consequences" is highly disputed. |

My feelings on global warming are mixed.
The 'cyclic argument' is a powerful one to me. It's happened in the past - it will happen again. In terms of the human impact - that is more ... ambiguous. I know, in the past we've allowed our ego-centric nature to assume we are more important - and have more impact than maybe we do. That said, look in your back yard, man! Look how man has had an affect on everything around you. Look at the pictures of earth from the moon at night - the lights. There is no question in my mind that we are overrunning our scarce resources. This little rock can't maintain this population explosion forever. Quote:
There are good reasons to get off oil besides climate implications - I'd focus on those as well as other sustainability strategies. But fundamentalist capitalism won't allow it.

This is obvious though there is no evidence of it happening this quickly which is where I believe humans have sped up the process. This is something that normally happens over hundreds or thousands of years. Just looking at the last 50 years, the rate of glacier melting has been mind blowing. To believe that we have nothing to do with it is just naive.
