Traffic jams

I spend an average of 50 minutes driving from home to work, it´s only a 5 mile ride, go figure. Around 35 minutes back home for lunch when I´m able to do so, then 15-20 heading back, and again around 35-40 minutes back home at night. Gotta love all us people driving cars with no passengers. Public transport sucks, although little by little I see some improvement, city council has even made a big effort for bike trails along the city, public buses are there, subway is on the way, but it just doesn´t work up til date. If you want to use public transport, get ready for doubling the time. I´m aware this should be a very common issue everywhere, but I just thought of throwing in this little rant. How much waste of gas,....is it like that where you live? Just curious.

Yeah, my city is pretty much the same. It's an old city, and as such so is the layout and street plan. There's probably a 2 hour window in the afternoon when it doesn't feel like rush hour. Other than that you're in virtual gridlock. After living here for several years I finally decided that moving downtown was the only way to preserve my sanity. I now live only a couple blocks from my job and traffic has become a thing of the past.

I live in DC now.
It is horrible.

If we want to change politics in the USA,
I say that we start with the flow of people in DC.

Once they experience something like what Phoenix created,
their thoughts can't help but to improve.

PS> Zimmy - THANK YOU!

The "transplants" have taken over. I call them "transplants" because they come to the D.C. area for the politics and jobs. Once here they start "building" and "home owners associations" which they attempt to turn into "towns". Then they leave.....

.....What is interesting is that we do not have 24 hour stores or functional mass transit. They channel people into the time slices of high traffic.

If I wanted to get to work at an office around Metro (train), at 0500 I would have to drive, Metro does not open till 0530. We have buses that run throughout Prince William County however they skip regions making them unviable. I had to fight to work from 06:00 to 15:00, have electronic access and I am not required to interface with the customer.

BillCosby has disabled reputation
In our area south of Sacramento Cali most commutes have doubled or tripled over the last fifteen years. Some even more...... I have friends that 15 years ago got to work in 20 mins.. Now it is more then that just to get on the freeway......

The unfettered growth has crammed the roads & once things p/up again the mass migration from the bay area will be back on again.............
